You can tell I'm counting the days and doing all the research I can before the bike arrives. Is this an issue on the V4? Another Youtuber certainly has had the problem too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=51&v=CPO5m2BVbIk
You get used to it and I wouldn't call it an issue. Bike holds any speed at any revs you like with a controlled right hand.
I didn’t have any issue with a sloppy throttle, although the clutch biting point was a long way from the bar and comes in very quickly so smooth getaways take a bit of practice
Thanks. I've gone for evotech adjustable levers so hopefully that might help my hobbit sized hands manage with it. You know what they say about a man with small hands! ...small gloves
I’ve found this too, clutch isn’t that easy to get used to, mine also sometimes doesn’t idle very well and cuts out.
Despite my before written comment, I meanwhile think it would be worth a try, because the throttleplay is not exactly annoying, but on the otherside it is a thing which could be better. I have ordered the Spacers very cheap from a guy in Germany who made them through his 3D-printer (material is ABS - same plastic as those LEGO play stones are made of). Wil let you guys know if the upgrade is worth it or not.
I've read some posts/reviews where the writers would have you believe that installing the throttle spacers transforms the bike in to some incredible new machine... that's a bit extreme. The free play in the throttle is intentional and some believe it's there to mimic the free play present in cable actuated assemblies, providing riders moving from the same to a RBW system a familiar feel. Certainly, if Ducati wanted to remove the free play they could easily have done so. I installed the throttle spacers on my 1199 and I like them. Will you like them? Perhaps, perhaps not. Opinions will vary. I believe they provide a better throttle feel when moving along in stop and go traffic when you're on and off the throttle. An improvement may also be realized when you're downshifting (and blipping the throttle). The spacers can easily be removed if you don't like the feel and for USD $30.00 you're not likely to lose much sleep over it should that be the case.
I’ve had them on my 959 and 1299. The biggest difference is when you are going on/off throttle (in slow traffic of the transitions through/out of a bend when you want to bring it on gradually)... although you can sort of get used to it, the movement at the start takes away precision in those gentle moments. I’d do it every time. I’d also advise against 3D printed ones because they fall apart, and you don’t want bits floating around inside the throttle.
Depends on which material you print them. ABS material sounds good to me and they are red too. But thanks for the advice - will check mine thoroughly, and if they are delicate to brake I won't put them on.
Okay guys - after installing the spacers and a proper testride here's my Verdict: 1. Check and doubl-check the placement and use a fine rasp to adapt size if necessary (as with mine) 2. Go and buy them. The throttle play is gone (as expected), but also the upshifts works smoother now and the mid-gas while downshifting does not move the bike a split-second forwards as before. Holding an exact speed is just a piece of cake now, also in lower revs. 3. I will recheck my aftermarket ones frequently (at least thats the plan), but the improvement in feel and response is so good, I would invest 150,- EUR easily for that. Cheers
Well I pulled the trigger. Heard nothing but good things from all, so when the fireball goes in for the recall they can fit them.
Thanks Stephan The jerk on mid throttle downshifts is annoying. Good to hear I'm not the only person experiencing it. Still does it after the new ECU firmware update on Wednesday. BTW now I've ridden S1000R and V4S back to back, the gear change on the Panigale is much sweeter. The BMW feels very heavy in comparison. I'll be fitting my stops at the weekend. And the tail today and the the delicious Peter Lieb frame guards. Hopefully it won't take too long as the sun has finally come out!
So I've put 320 miles on the bike this weekend and on a side note, a testament to how well the V4 rides - great bike that doesn't punish you for touring, half as much as one might expect it to. Having ridden for a solid time, I find the throttle spacers transfer the vibration to your hand, that would have gone in to the slack, now negated by putting the spacer on. Now this might be rubbish since I didn't put a lot of miles on before I had them, but holding a rev for a long time means my thumb ended up going a bit numb. I find the tension in the throttle is a little firmer, when trying to hold a rev. Now I'm justing putting the running in miles on so in 'real life', the need to sit on 5k rpm all day wont really happen.
Ive fitted these to my v4s (had them on my 1299s) and they really are great mod! Takes 2mins to fit. No more throttle play! Perfect for me now
I was very unhappy with the play in the throttle - loved everything else about the bike - so asked the dealer to fix the slop in the throttle at the first service. Found out that this wasn't possible so ordered the spacers. Huge improvement as far as I'm concerned ... as someone else commented the slack makes small throttle movements much harder to judge. So, you notice it either in stop/start traffic (not such a big deal) or at the track where small differences matter. I would therefore 100% recommend it as an upgrade and am surprised Ducati don't offer an official kit to do it.
