+1 on that. That's very nice. I migrated from sports bikes to prefering the Streetfighter a couple of years back. I now look at this and think it'll be my next step. Something like....Streetfighter....Multi.....Norton or Triumph retro......Mobility Scooter......Grave......Harley (I'd never buy one while alive)
I believe that Vellocette was the first manufacturer to coin the name Thruxton for one of their marques after a heavily modified 500cc Venom won its class at the Thruxton 500 in 1965. I owned a Thruxtonised Venom in the early 70s but sadly fell asleep on it early one morning. I survived with several broken ribs and assorted bruises but the bike was totalled . Andy
The R is defo the one to have. £13K for all that Ohlins does not seem to bad compared to £16k for a Monster R. Be ineresting to see the BHP/Torque figures.
My mates got a Vellocete Thruxton, it's an awsome bike he like nothing better than pissing all over 600 super sport bikes on it.
Had spent the day cliff climbing at Swanage and had ridden back late at night to Farnborough in Hampshire for work the next day. Near home my head just nodded and as I jerked back upright, I lost it. You do some crazy things when you are young and invincible. Andy
It seems a lot when you consider the Speed R was £11.5k with Ohlins, brembos and forged pvm wheels. But then bike prices across the board have gone crazy now...
They dropped the forged PVM's start of last year, my mate bought a non ABS ex demo so he could get an 'R' with the PVM wheels as they make a difference. The thing is, there isn't really a reason why it should be any cheaper than a speed triple, it's just as high tech, yes the Speed has the Ohlins NIX Forks but as u say, all bikes are going up
Yeah that's true, it's a brand new machine with all the tech of any other modern bike. The Thruxton R has a similar torque output too (81lbft) so it should shift well enough for a Sunday morning blast.
Yep! I've said for a while that if the current 865 had a better suspension and brake package, 20% more power and 6 gears it would be a really capable fast road bike. Triumph did that but stuck about 40% more power in and 60% more torque by the looks of it!!
I tried a brand new one this time last year before buying the 996 as I always fancied one, although i've never quite got on with the headlights, but was really disappointed. I certainly don't think they are "keepers", where as I think I could quite happily buy a new Thruxton R and keep it forever.
Nice work! The speed triple is a good bike, no question! I've ridden it loads of times but the gearbox is heavy, clutch really heavy and the fuelling has a tendency to 'bang'. Overall it feels old now and bland. Which isn't what u want when u spend £11k on it! I really think the Thruxton R is in the same league as the Nortons, and they are 15k+
My lovely wife said this about the thruxton. Bare in mind I rode to our first date on my 09 thruxton, leather jacket etc. "That's the kind of bike you should have, that's james dean, that's oozing testosterone, not like that Ducati scrambler that looks like something kiera Knightley would ride"
I remember T3 built some thruxton specials which essentially look the same as the Thruxton R. It was going to cost me £7k plus my 09 thruxton as a donor bike. So all in that would have cost £13500 for a slightly higher spec but less powerful thruxton. 120nm is Monster 1200S territory and it has a slipper clutch.
