Thought I would change the stock caliper bolts to some nice pro bolt titanium ones, when comparing them, they look different ,can one of you guys just confirm that they look ok,cheers
thought all bolts were cold rolled. Even SS. Ti is cut because i suspect cold rolling is problematic. damn can't remember my materials science. Cut eh. live and learn
for what you paid, if you're having cold feet about them just send them back. they should be fine, all they've done is shouldered the shaft to blag some weight saving blurb and justify what they charge. like braiders said, just fit them, and at the pub nobody will have a clue they're Ti until you point to them and tell them.
What are you confused about? They only offer a clamping force? And they are certainly up to the job!! Just because they look different does not mean they are no good!! Fit them
They are correct, fit them, both bolts have rolled threads for what its worth, cheap eBay Ti bolts are often cut threads, a lot of Pro Bolt stuff is made by Racebolt, pay Probolt a visit and ask to see the manufacturing plant Ti64.co.uk make anything you want, not rolled threads though but they seem good enough for some top teams. The material police will be along soon so watch out!, fyi many top race teams use Ti bolts for major fixings etc, however the subject is a can of worms on here Also available laser etched
they're light and strong. Outstanding corrosion characteristics, and very good at not turning the rest of your bike into a battery (causing premature corrosion elsewhere) unlike some types of stainless steel. I don't know about MotoGP or Superbike, but Formula 1, and GT cars still prefers NAS bolts for critical fixings. the only thing to be careful of is galling with Titanium but if you're at all paranoid a layer of grease should do the trick. Unless you ride that bike on the raggedy edge and are built like a mexican racing snake don't let anyone mug you off with the whole weight thing. Yes its light but its the other mechanical and metallurgical properties that make this metal shine. Ti stuff is lovely and yes it does have many advantages, the question is really does the advantage justify the cost to you? Me personally, I'm not a great rider and at nearly 16 stone a good dump will be worth more than the weight advantage of Ti, however if I could afford it I'd have it for no other reason than just because- and that's me being honest with messen.
Thanks for your help guys, will fit them today, going to get some lock wire and the pliers, any ideas on how to do this or shall I start another thread lol
