Hi all, It’s that time of year where I live to get the bike out and start riding it. Thing is, the titanium pipes are just filthy and I want to clean them up a bit!! Now, I’ve been searching the internet top to bottom, left to right and I can’t seem to find all that much info other than to use things such as Brasso or Never Dull. I’ve tried the latter and it’s worked a bit on the area’s I’ve tested, but on others it’s not budged a mm of stain or dirt!!! I’d like to get the back to almost as new, like the picture below. This is how they are now - please excuse the shoddy picture quality!! Any tips etc would be welcomed, I’ve got plenty time on my hands and don’t mind doing these things on my own – I’m just at loss as to why they clean up on some parts, but not others!! Cheers!
The bike's not had the easiest of times from me, and it's all the better for it!! It was mostly run in on the track in Qatar, then screwed throttle open after that - lucky if it's done much more than 1000kms on the road.... Sadly, the pipes have hardly gone blue at all, though I believe that is what the ti termi pipes do unlike the akra's that do go nicely blue!!
I think your system is stainless steel? It should just polish up like mine did, and then it turns a golden colour after a few miles.
i actually think your pipes look better now than they did in the first pic. more of a uniform colour rather than shiney bits inbetween the darker welded bits
It's a Titanium System, of that I'm sure. The most annoying part is the pipe from the rear cylinder. It's almost black!! I'm not the biggest fan of the super polished finish, I quite like the used look but just not filthy!! I found some info on the net which suggests brasso and a load of elbow grease - can but try. Thanks guys
Well I stand corrected, there you go. I dug out the receipt and searched for the part no. 96456411B, and it is indeed stainless steel.... So, it would appear I'm as sure about my pipes, as a financial advisor is about investments theses days... With that in mind, I should have less of an issue and be less likely to damage the pipes using conventional chemicals - happy days!! Is there anyway to get them back to standard finish, without ending up with them being "piolshed"? Thanks again guys
The welding is a dead giveaway to Ti pipes . Heres a picture of some dirty Ti . But just look at them welds.
Heres some more Ti.Pics 1,2 &3 Termi Ti .Pics 4&5 Akrapovic Ti Akrapovic evo wins hands down imho.I just give em a wipe over with rag sprayed with either WD40 or GT85.
i just paid a local metal finishing emporium £25 to bring mine back to this finish, as i'm basically lazy when it comes to finger breaking polishing!
You can mirror polish Ti and it will go blue again, anyway as you know they are SS, however a few Ti systems are around now the 1198 racing is over, then the rules changed and some are half and half. I used a polishing wheel on a bench grinder to polish mine on my 748, it loos really good now if you like the polished up look?
