To Catch A Thief

  1. I've been shocked at the amount of people having bikes stollen on here.
But, like a lot of us i think, should we need a new part one of the first places to look is Ebay. This I think is where a lot of parts that aren't sent abroad must end up.
If we all got together, and took any parts bought second hand to the police to check for smart water or such likes it's bound to find a few fiddlers and stop this area of the market for them.
Sure we might lose out on a bargain part once in a while but i know ebay would reimburse the buyer if the part was stollen and confiscated by police.
As the saying goes, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Or am I way off track here with this. I'm only trying to help us all in the long run.

  2. it is absolutely the correct thing to do

  3. Yup. Saw the wheels off my supermoto last month....nicked last year from my mates garage....I contacted the user to appeal to his better nature...went unheeded... He relisted them and they went second time...I must confess i refrained from letting eBay know as I thought they would do nothing..let alone reimburse him...didn't think they did that...

  4. Yeah it's one thing eBay is quite good at. When there's a dispute or especially if you have proof of wrong doing they pay up so not to leave innocent parties out of pocket. Even cancel accounts and the likes. Like insurance, it's the reason the fees can be so high.
Doubt they'd reimburse the seller, he might be the thief! But if a buyer found them to be stolen and police kept them I'm sure get your money back.
My biggest thought on going to the police is knowing most stations won't have the equipment to do the necessary checks.

  5. i expect this to be the fault of the Police by about post 10.....:upyeah:
