Not to Pani. Currently have a sorted 999 but after 20 minutes in the saddle I need a full body massage. Sat on a Pani and it seemed a lot more comfortable - going to book a test ride. Am I just getting caught up in the hype or are they really that good? Probably half my riding will be on track - are there still problems passing the sound checks? My 999 is putting out 144 at the rear wheel am I really going to use the extra power and is that power worth the extra dough? Cheers, Simon
Course you wont have any need for 195bhp but just imagine all the bragging right and willy waving you'll be able to do.
I rode to Italy on my 999 in 2 days in 2010 and found it really comfortable. I've fitted higher/wider clip-ons(cyclecat) and they were a big improvement although around town I have to keep my hands outboard so gloves don't foul the fairing on full lock. Cyclecat kit for 999 is no longer available but from what I've read a similar effect can be achieved by swapping the standard bars around.
It's my willy and I will wave it around as fast as I like!!!! Its my legs - more than 20 minutes and I am in agony. Still want a sports bike for track days though.
Going to look at one on Saturday Have the 848 atm and that's pretty good on my legs, the sales guy was telling me the Panis are even better for leg room. We shall see I guess.
Got a footrest lowering kit made out of 6mm alloy for a 999. You can borrow them if you want, try them, if they do the job get a set made. I can't see how a 1199 is going to be less cramped.
The 999 has quite a bit of adjustment and i have a set of adjustable rear sets as well on the lowest setting - still want to lop my legs off!!! Have any Pani owners on here gone from a 999?
I used to have a 749 which is more or less the same as a 999 apart from the power of course and can say the Panigale is heaven by comparison. I had the 's' model 749 with the adjustable pegs but at 6ft4 couldn't get anywhere near comfortable. It was a great bike in every other way but sold it as soon as the 1098 came along which was better proportioned for me. The Panigale is way more comfortable than both the 749 and 1098. The height of the handle bars, seat and pegs are better positioned in relation to each other making for a more comfortable, easier and better handling ride all round.
They originally came from ebay, a guy made a few extra sets to sell. Easy to make with a vice/drill/8mm tap/hacksaw/file. I haven't used them but they're on the shelf for a few years time. If you want dimensions pm me.
I have a 916 and an 1198. Both are cramped leggy and stretch to bars. 1198 is better than 916 but only marginally. Reports say Pani has more room but tbh i'd be surprised if it wasnt marginal too. Ive sat on one and I couldnt feel anymore room. My 916 has Gilles and they helped my knees as I adjusted the foot position much more to my liking. Havent done 1198 yet as money hasnt allowed me to yet. Sports bikes are just cramped full stop. Better to get a dedicated track bike and a Strada or maybe a goldwing lol
I had a 848 and it would make my knees ache after a hour or so, mind you I am no spring chicken, but I changed to a 1199s in April and the problem with my knees aching has gone.
I've just bought some of these and highly recommend them. They sell on ebay for only £30 + free postage from a company called 'M-Factory'. Best £30 I've spent!
Going to take the pani out for an extended test ride then make a final decision. If I stay will the 999 will need to do some footpeg adjustments.
Simon your rearsets look a fair bit further back from standard. When I got my 999 the first thing I did was move the pegs back so I could stretch out more (6' x 31" i.l.) I was 55 then and a bit creaky going back to a sports bike. Big mistake, not comfortable, a week later I ended up with them low/forward and it was a big improvement. Those plates I bought will put the pegs 5mm back and 25mm lower. Try original set up and borrow these plates for the rest of the year if you like.
