Tom Tom Rider 2

  1. Not real sure where to post this but touring looked like a good spot.
Anyone using Tom Tom who can tell me how to map routes with Tyre and
then load to my TT I'd sure appreciate it. I've tried with no luck so far.
I'm planning to do the US and Canada this summer. THanks.

  2. I use Garmin, but I have used Tyre to send Tomtom routes to associates. I do this by creating route, "save as" using "Tom Tom Itinerary" from the drop-down menu and saving. how he uploads to his device, I'll have to ask, but it seems to work quite well.

  3. Thread moved

  4. You could also look at using MyRoute App. Plan your route on a lap top and then load up to the satnav. Andy

  5. I cannot remember the detail now but TomTom had some special weirdness about it where you couldn't download certain types of data (possibly routes) to the device itself but you could D/L to an SD card inserted in the device. Like I said - weird.

  6. Suggest giving this a try.

Watch waypoints, best to pick an exact destination, if using a town as a waypoint enroute, then pick a road number (one that keeps you enroute). Otherwise you could end up doing a weird drive around the middle of a village or town until the satnav picks up the exact waypoint! Also consider fragmenting a days riding in to 2 or 3 stages. That way if there is a road closure or a route feks up, you can skip to a latter stage of the route?
Either way, no problems using it with Garmin and Tomtom.

  7. The Tyre help menu seems pretty comprehensive.

"4. If you have a TomTom device, change the following option (you have to do this only once):
Change preferences --> Planning preferences --> Ask me every time I plan --> Done --> Done "

    Followed by

"Here is a description for TomTom devices
Itinerary planning --> Options --> Load Itinerary

[IMG] You will be asked if you want to remove the current trip. Select 'Yes'.

Select the itinerary you want to use and confirm with 'Done'.

TomTom will ask you if you want to navigate to the destination of the route. Choose 'Yes'.

At this point you can select your trip's type. In most cases it is wise to select 'Avoid highways'. But of course you are free to select the type that your prefer. Confirm with 'Done'.

(If you cannot select your trip's type, you have to change the preferences in your TomTom. Go to step 4 above.)

For different TomTom device types menu structures and images may be different."

  8. Received instructions as to how to upload, as follows:

"Connect Tomtom to a USB port on your computer.
Tomtom will put a question on its screen, "Do you want to connect to 'Computer'?" - press the YES button.
After a few seconds, your computer will see a new drive called "INTERNAL" - the details might vary slightly, I'm used to a MAC computer. (Tomtom Home may wake up on your computer, you simply ignore it while dealing with this itinerary upload.)
Open the new drive, find within it the directory called "itn", copy the itinerary file into that directory.
(You can do anything you like with Tomtom Home now, or simply ignore it.)
Unmount (eject, or whatever the terminology is for your computer to eject a USB drive, or use the Home Eject button).
When your computer has unmounted/ejected, you can choose to unplug your Tomtom, or, if you leave it plugged in, answer "NO" when it again asks if you want to connect to the computer.
When Tomtom has rebooted, you can now load the new itinerary as if it had been created on the Tomtom."

If this fails, there is a Tyre option to contact them direct.
