1260 Tom Tom Rider Mount

  1. Has anyone got a Tom Tom rider and mounted it on the handle bars rather than using the hi level bracket that mounts it under the fairing screen ?

I'm thinking of getting a new Rider sat nav, and the thought of being able to share it over 2 bikes (and an old car!) easily is appealing, so I'm thinking a "lockable" (very important) handle bar mounting system would make sense ?
Plus, I find the hi level mount can shake a bit and make it hard to focus on the screen.

Any thoughts or opinions welcome :upyeah:

  2. Not on a Multi, I went for the high mount on my 1260 and 1200. I mean it's all well and good locking the ram press screw but if it's on the handle bars with a U mount or any other fixing then that can still be undone.
On other bikes I have a combo of U-mounts, bar end balls and custom mounts.

On my 1200 I use the the key part and with the high level mount it's really hard to get at the screws to remove anything.
On my other bikes I've not bothered with the locking system and it's never gone walkies yet. If the area's looking really dodgy I just pop it in a pocket.

  3. I initially had my TomTom on a ram mount on the handlebars although wasn’t happy with it for a few reasons - I had to take my eye off the road more than I liked to see it; visibility was tricky with a tank bag on; fitting positions were limited because it fouled the tank when locking hard over in many positions I wanted to put it in. It was doable but not ideal so I switched to the above dash mount, which I’m very happy with.

  4. I use this one, works well and not too low down.

  5. Like BrassFlute originally had mine mounted low, using bolt on RAM ball in place of one of the handlebar clamp bolts, a long RAM arm and an AMPS mount plate. Same setup as I had on my MV Turismo. Difficult to place where it didn't either foul my small Givi Tank bag or the fairing.

Garmin rather than TomTom but same principals apply.

This was for the trip back from the dealers, Stoke to Ledbury. Swapped out for a high level Ducati mount ASAP. Much better as more within my line if sight. High level mount does vibrate a little, this improved when I changed from my older Garmin to Zumo XT which is quite a bit lighter.

Multiple vehicles just require multiple mounts, easily available, though the XT came with a car cradle in the box and I only have the one bike.
