  1. Evening folks. Contemplating a satnav (bike) & wondering if anyone's using a tom tom rider system. good/bad ? They seem a fair bit cheaper than the Garmins. Grateful for any advice :upyeah:
Unrelated,my multy goes back to m/ch Ducati (once again) on sunday for a new collector box,to fix the exvl fault, shims for the cluncky forks(ohlins), new dash to make my horn work after an ecu update on the 7,500 service disabled it & a new front wheel after a rather nasty stockport pot hole incident (the council are paying £941.00 inc labour!
Still completely in love with the bloody thing despite all its faults
Did 450 mls on it last weekend rnd cumbria & nth yorks, fantastic

  2. Hi pal. I've got a tom tom rider pro with the scala headset. Got it as a package last year and used it during a trip round france,Germany, italy etc. worked perfect and glove friendly. I don't think you can programme it as much as the zumo garmins etc but it was fine for me. And it's glove friendly !!
this year I bought the in car roadless and used it in my Motorhome in France, it did the job fine. Cheers

  3. Ive got the tom tom scala on mine , ive had the zumo 550s and i dont think i would go back now. The tom tom has better graphics by far, plus more options than the zumo 550 ie shortest route, fastest route.

its early days but so far impressed.

  4. Tomtom appears to have better graphics and voice guidance is much better, as was story on fifth gear a few weeks ago when they tested sat navs, only weak point of riders is the charging cradle, i have two mates that use them and both have had failures.

I use a normal tomtom go car satnav in a waterproof case with instructions into a bluetooth helmet, and that works fine for me.

I also use the TYRE planning software, and that is really good, and is compatable for both Tomtom & Garmin.

  5. I have been using the TOMTOM Rider with scala for several years now and its very good. I have had no problems and very easy to use, not had Garmin so can not compare.

  6. Tom Tom here to - plus it has a twisty road button

Mines done 17k at least and been perfect , even been thrown down the road

  7. Cool, do all the tom toms have the 'twisty rd' option?

  8. Thanks for all the input, looks like it's a Tom Tom then

  9. It's called 'winding roads' not sure if all have mines 3 years old

Not updated software as this seems like the expensive bit - think £60

  10. Is this the software you mean?
TyreToTravel - find, create and share routes

I've been using Garmin Basecamp with my Zumo 660, but it's very clunky and un-intuitive

  11. Yes thats the one, it is really easy to use, once you get into it. In the options you can choose between Garmin or Tomtom file formats.

Try it its free. i am sure you will find it better than basecamp

  12. Thanks, but annoyingly I've just realised it's only for Windows users (I'm a long time Macboy)

  13. I use a Garmin Zumo 660 and I love it - don't use basecamp - i have a Sena headset - perfect

  14. Snap. :upyeah: I have recently purchased the 660 as well and used it for the first time last weekend on a short trip to the West of Ireland - great piece of kit.

  15. dont buy an older tomtom rider (ie v1 or v2), the early ones bracket mountings are cack

i have a zumo 220 and a friend has the rider 1, both are fairly similar with latest maps

  16. Ended up buying a rider. £160 for a new unit but no box or headset hence fairly cheap. It has the winding road button which is brilliant.

  17. Just use an iPhone with the new iOS 6 software the sat nav is the nuts

  18. iPhone would be excellent if you could upload routes onto it

  19. Debated that but the screen is to hard to read for me. Also 3G not as quick & lots of bad reception in rural areas

  20. Only the V1 had a risky bracket, the V2 is the revised bracket version that's still current. Only late V2s have the twisty road slider. I'm a happy V2 (2008, early) owner.
