Oh dear... Most popular baby names 2014: Mohamed tops boys' list while Elsa enters girls' top 100 - Home News - UK - The Independent
Since you asked...two things. Cant wait for the UKIP and Mail reaction 'take back our streets' and it is a little worrying as the surge in radicalisation is in the young, not the old, of which there may be an increasing number if these are traditional names to those named. Where will we be in 18 years?
Living under sharia law according to St Nigel and the holy nights of St george Welcome one and all to the lovely country of England and the United Kingdom of farage
What's in a name? Nothing if you ask me. Interesting though and personally I think Mohamed is a nice name. There are certainly far worse options available imo
Me thinks you are pretending to miss the point. Or... you are a politician. I'd say the OP is a tad concerned about UK values and culture. Just like I am.
Oh no I care deeply about our values and our culture, but isn't part of our culture integration? If I have missed the point, then it wont be the first time
Most certainly I'd say. But unfortunately the intergration thing is not a two way street, which is gonna be the fly in the ointment. I lived in Saudi Arabia for 14 months which was very much a 'comply or die' attitude regarding their faith. 50 odd years ago, by and large people the world over stayed where they were born. In recent decades the world has become more of a global village of intergration. And we aint getting along as far as I can see. Maybe It'll get better, maybe it wont.
Is it like the first year that Wayne overtook Adoni in Australia? I cant imagine many christian or jewish households have named their child mohamad, and is it also a sign of an increased birth rate amonsgst a part of the community while other parts reduce? My point isnt one of immigration etc, its one of the spread of islam and the intensified radicalisation of young muslims
just you wait and see, after the next general election angus, hamish, macsporran will all be in the top ten. cant wait for the reaction to that.
Forgive me for asking and I'm not trying to start an argument here, but explain the correlation between the naming of a child and radicalisation
I'm not cetain there is, a concern is that, not a fact. have an argument if you like its really hard to express views on this while remaining non-racist and non-religionist (if there is such a word) for every reader, as so,e see what they eant to see. This is nothing to do with either: its the changing culture of push to Shia law in many quarters of a growing UK population If you look at those at the rallies, those being arrested for heading to Siria, those who carried out recent and not so recent attacks, the common thread seems to be young and impressionable Its more that a big increse in population, even if the rates remain the same, means more would be at risk of radicalisation.
Yeah, but what is also interesting is that before you get to Mohammad, you've got Jacob (4), Joshua (12) and Noah (13) - like really Jewish names, but no one could give a monkey's about that. The media is just obsessed with Islam, so the country becomes obsessed with Islam. When you look into it, there may be a few hundred (maybe a thousand or more) British jihadis, but then if the Muslim population is say 2.8m, that works out to about 0.035% of it. I expect that Scientologists make up as least a great a part of the UK population in % terms. People need to understand that radical Islam (I mean, beheading and violent Islam) is just cultism. People get sucked into the Moonies and a host of other weird cults, and so it is with radical Islam. The parents of these kids utterly reject this sort of cultism - it's no more to do with their religion than some of the barmier Christian cults are to do with the C of E. I'm not suggesting that it isn't a problem or doesn't need fighting, but it's not a good yardstick to judge an entire section of the population (however tempting that might be - and it is).
And those names have become non-religion based generations ago. Not the same with this one. Maybe in time it will.
