I'm looking at trading in my 1200S touring (2012) for a 1260S touring (2018). Can I keep my existing genuine top box and transfer it over to the 2018 bike? It doesn't have any sort of plate on it as yet. If so how would you go about changing the lock barrel to match the key of the new bike?
Hi - I looked into this a while ago, as I had a 2013 leftover box and fitting kit, and the answer is “yes & no”. Someone will correct me if completely wrong, but from memory; the plate arms for your 2012 are similar/identical than the kit for 2015> but the pads and plate are different but can be bought separately (there is a thread on here with part numbers). Might be less of a ball ache to get a new kit though. With the key - another thread on here, you can remove a few wafers from the lock barrel and use your existing key but it will be less secure (basically anyone with a multi key can open your top box). I got a generic givi plate that fits the boxes if you want to try and Frankenstein something yourself - pm me if you want it? I ended buying a different bike that had a top box included, but was ready to go with all the above hacks - good luck! Ant
My top box from my old 2017 DVT fit my 1260s (2018) no problems. Dealers gave me the spare barrel to fit. I don't think the box from my previous 2014s fit the 2017 DVT tho
I thought it was the other way round. The top box fitting plate is the same but the arms are different.
I seem to recall I checked the arms when I got new bike - identical from memory, but this was a year ago and I have slept a lot since. if I get chance later today I will go have a look I think I still have the old bits somewhere
Thanks that's a very kind offer. Still waiting to see if I'm going to do the deal, just doing as much homework as possible first.
The top box mounting plate, it's fixings and the support arms changed in 2015 when the 1200 DVT was introduced. The top case itself stayed the same, 2010 to 2020. See a previous thread on the top case mounting changes and part numbers for the 1200 DVT (MY2015).
The top box wil fit. There is a spare lock included included with the 1260. The mounting hardware does not fit. That is significantly different from the earlier MTS. Switched from a 2010 to a 2020 1260 GT. so know from practical experience
I have a genuine Ducati top box frame mounting plate for the 1260 multistrada. No longer have the bike so its just sat in garage. If your interested message me
Nice one. Just doing some haggling with the bike dealer, hopefully I will know very soon if the bike is mine. They do have the top box lock which is good news.
