i have fitted the rack and top box from my old 2011 to my 2014 model, all the fittings were the same and had no problems with it, however my wife says that the top box seems more forward and is digging into her back, is this due to the different seat configuration on the 2014? I know they made the front seat more spacious which I assume results in less space for the back seat? This is proving an issue for her comfort on upcoming trips, will the mono key universal adaptor plate allow me to mount it slightly further back ?
The rack mounting is exactly the same, its the same part. The front of the pillion seat has moved back ~40mm, and the seat is a slightly different profile. This may well make it feel like the 'sweet spot' is further back. My wife didnt like the 2012 seat (which is the same, as it was 2012 the seats got updated). Fortunately I kept the early touring seats off my previous bike. They fit straight on (as a pair). The universal mounting plate looks crap in comparison, and from what I recall mounts it in the same place. I have seen somewhere an adapter plate that has a set of holes at varying offsets. If you cant find it I would be inclined to get one made up.
