Hello - newbie to this forum. I'm asking this question as after 15 years of biking I've never had a top box on any of my bikes! I have a 1260S GT - I've been offered a perfectly good working Ducati top box that came off a 1200. My questions are: 1 Will this fit my 1260? 2. Am I right in thinking I will need something like the SW-Motech ALU-RACK and a GIVI adaptor to fit it? Thanks!
You will need a proper Ducati rack and support arms to fit to. The Sw Motech rack fixings are not strong enough.
As @duke63 says. Get the original Ducati rack and the all important support arms. Without the latter your asking for problems with a broken rack or grab rails. The other racks will be OK with the top case on it's own but if you put much more than nothing in it then it'll be overloaded.
I has a SHAD 58 ltr top box on my 1260, great piece of kit as its expandable and looks so much better than the Givi. If your interested i've still got the SHAD mounting kit for the 1260 available.
I have a box on mine , basically turns it into a bi-plane above a certain speed . Not a big fan , prefer the panniers.
