It prevents the rider sliding forward. The standard seat tends to make the rider slide towards the tank. The Touratech comfort seat overcomes this issue.
@BabyD I have a 1260s So I started on standard seat - really painful after an hour I tried a ducati comfort seat - 20 MM higher profile - taller but really painful after an hour I bought one of these Touratech seats from a forum member in Germany - wider seat that provides support across your back side and also supports your upper legs, slightly wider seat so feel height wise between std. ducati and ducati comfort. For me the seat is brilliant can ride for 2-3 hours with no pain. I am 5' 10 and 14.5 stone weight. Hope this helps PS the price is great on this item
