Hi guys I'm looking to get a second bike for going over Europe and taking the misses out on the odd occasion. I've had a multistrada s with skyhook for a few months and loved it but being a short Arse and having tried a diavel I'm also considering one Any input and advise would be great!
Have you tried the new Multistrada or the older model? OLD SEAT HEIGHT 850mm (33.5in) NEW SEAT HEIGHT Adjustable 825 - 845 mm (32,5 - 33,3 in)
IMO the Diavel is not a bike I would choose to tour two up on. Touring one up the Davel is great, comfortable and a good mileage range although luggage space is at a premium. Throw overs are available though. Andy
Thanks guys I tried the old multi, this is my problem there both great bikes! I won't be touring two up but I might take the misses out on it once in a blue moon as she refuses to get on the back of my pani
Not ridden a diavel but being an SA too, i struggle less with the new multi than the last skyhook. But with SH you can set the preload to be real soft for around town then up it with a button press for open road riding Some have had a new seat, narrowing the profile rather than using the low seat which simply takes padding out
Ginge,my Mrs hated going pillion on the Diavel and in the end refused point blank to go on it,i found the Diavel had awful suspension for long 2 hour plus trips but great fun for a hour of hooligan riding,i would not like to tour on one without some suspension work. The multi is the right tool for touring and mile munching and the Mrs has been know to have a bit of kip on the back and she will not let me sell it. I would look outside the Ducati range for something better suited for a shortarse,mt10 is a lot of bike for under 10k ?
Yeah, I did a 2000 mile trip in the US on the Diavel and while it was fun, that rear shock is crap for long-distance work as you say. You could slap an Ohlins on there though if you have the budget and that would probably iron out the problem. Other than the rear shock it didn't make a bad tourer and you can get a few luggage racks for it etc. etc. Quite short tank-range though as I remember at 130 miles or so.
Carole rides a Diavel, we have toured doing 250 to 300 miles a day and she routinely rides 100+ miles on observed rides in preparation for her IAM test. She has always loved the bike with a passion ever since she bought it over 4 years ago although t did take me a while to find the right suspension setting. At over 6ft it's not for me but the few miles I have done on it, it is a very capable and engaging bike to ride and it ain't slow ! Andy
Thanks guys I'll go try the new multi, I have tried a mt10 couple and weeks ago as my father in law is buying one but I still don't like that engine, might try the Mv as well and go from there, a mate just suggested a zzr1400 as well food for thought I guess
