950 Touring Italy On A 950

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ProfessionalWhistler, Sep 9, 2023.

  1. I joined this forum as I'm hankering after a multistrada. I've come to Italy for 3 weeks and hired a 950 to see if that's enough for two up touring or whether the 1260 or new V4 would be a better choice. Hmmm. Well so far the bikes got plenty of power but the suspension is very soft. It's mostly been 1st and 2nd gear hairpins so far and I'm dragging the centre stand. I've put a bit of weight on with good living but maybe I need an S model? The bike is very comfortable and I had the foresight to buy the Ducati bags so I've managed to squeeze a bit of luggage in. Really interesting experience so far. The bike throws off lots of heat at slow speed however improves with a bit of airflow. I quite like it in white as well. A few pics from the trip so far. I'll try winding on more pre load tomorrow I think. I'm no suspension genius mind. Lol. Great trip so far. 5. You will still need to firm up pre load with kit/passenger. If you haven’t, I’d start there.

  6. I love the north of Italy and into Austria but that's 1150 km away so it'll wait for another trip.

  7. I'd agree...and in fairness, I should have taken the time to set it up before I set off. I do think in general better suspension pays dividends but it's a lovely, well balanced bike.

  8. It’s why I’ve always gone skyhook. So easy to press a button and let it deal with it. Worth the extra imho

  9. Is there much left in this? Asking for a friend IMG-20230911-WA0009.jpg IMG-20230911-WA0008.jpg

  10. Great scenery there. Its on my bucket list to ride over the Alps and tour northern Italy.
To "S", or not to "S"...... I've got the S version of the 1260 and its the smoothest riding bike I've ever owned. Once you dial in your preferred riding mode then its plain sailing.
Personally Id say pay the extra and get the S version of the 950. But then again Id also say pay more and get a used 1260, that DVT engine is great.

  11. It's been a great trip so far....if a little warm. First world problems. Made it around Sicily and currently in Palermo which is a beautiful old place. Minor, but I suspect expensive, comedy slow speed fall on gravel by my travelling companion, who is now the proud owner of a multis rada . Hey ho, the show goes on. 12. So...a few things I'd observe about the trip. The 950 is enough to tour on but needs better suspension. S model it is then! May as well get a 1260 S if it's at the right price . Comfortable bike but hot in the heat. Centre stand drags in hairpins, as they all do. No idea what MPG it did. Makes an excellent noise. . The Ducati pannier bags I bought made the most of the luggage and I'm pleased I bought them. All in all, it's been an unseasonally warm 36 degrees the last 3 weeks and we've had a blast. I might just buy a Ducati and join you. I think the fuss and bother of a Ducati is probably worth it PXL_20230916_114754046.jpg PXL_20230922_211441424.jpg PXL_20230920_194338279.jpg PXL_20230920_145119299.jpg PXL_20230925_073424636.jpg PXL_20230919_111045038.jpg PXL_20230920_153656226.jpg PXL_20230921_063732337.jpg PXL_20230923_151017050.MP.jpg PXL_20230925_044732821.MP.jpg

  13. Oh...and we found great accommodation. If anyone needs a pointer or two for Sicily, happy to oblige. And if you like a bike project... plenty to go at here...
