Touring with the small sporty screens

  1. Hello you lot, going to France for a weeks touring in a couple of weeks and really want to take the new carbon sport screen. Has anyone done serious mileage with the small type screen on guys and was it ok? Really falling out with the standard one at the moment. The noise and turbulence spoil the whole experience. Sorry for that little whine, not like me but there you go. Cheers

  2. Hi Ojobear - sorry to say, that's not a question that anyone else is likely to help with. It is entirely subjective. If you like it now, with the low screen, why should it be different for touring. Concerned about the effect of wind pressure for high mileages? I would be but I'm not you. I've ridden sports bikes with low screens for high mileages and there is something to be said for the quieter flow of air that is almost on a par with a naked bike. Presumably you have come to terms with the reduction in what little weather protection is available from the standard screen. On a bike with wide bars and a sit-up riding position, the extra wind pressure might be tiring. On the other hand, you have presumably done some miles with the small screen so you should be able to make a judgement. Other opinions might be interesting but who are you going to believe? Either way, I bet you'll enjoy your trip so much that the screen will seem insignificant.

  3. Sorry mr viewdvb, not that it makes much difference I suppose but the screen isn't here yet so I have no experience at all. Hoping someone out there has.

  4. Oops - wrong assumption. Sorry. Perhaps you should reconsider taking anything untried on a holiday trip. It just might not suit you and that could spoil things. Better the devil you know.

  5. Your probably right, especially with this crap weather. Based halfway down France this time and they have got the same shit as us.

  6. I find the small screen great and can feel the difference if you adjust on the move. Surprising what difference it makes. I've never ridden one with the standard screens but I don't find there to me much turbulence although I have always had sports bikes.

  7. Ive only ridden my bike once since getting it and the turbulence in the short 30 miles was unbearable dp performance screen. I'm going to order the fabbri short for my alps trip later this year. Not worried about the elements as much as clean air flow ;)

  8. I had the MRA shorty screen from the first day I had the Multi. It was great until I hit 85-90 mph. The bufferring stepped in and I couldnt live with it. I have the MRA dark touring now which although not perfect is far better. The shorty screens certainly look better IMO.

I suppose it depends on height etc. I am 5'10" and had the DP seats on with the shorty. I now have the comfort / touring seats which sit sa bit lower.

  9. I have the MRA shorty dark screen, also pretty much since I 1st got the bike, couldn't live with the wind noise with the standard screen
Love the look, must admit been riding sports bikes most of my life though?
I can live with the wind blast, but iam 5'8 and use the comfort seat, which is a little lower to, and always wear ear plugs too

  10. Each to their own - all I will say is that the I was very glad of the Ducati touring screen when doing 700 miles in the wet. With Aztec Spacers and the screen 2/3 up there was little wind noise and also most of the rain was deflected up and over my head. If it stays wet get a bigger screen.

  11. This is the one I have ordered. Should be here this week. Good call by the way. Should fit in with the luggage.

  12. I agree. The optional bigger screen, set at the top position, is just about high enough for me (I am tall) and perfect for continental touring I find. The idea of a shorter screen is a no-no for me.

  13. I'll have one of those for sale in a couple of days.

  14. what you selling mate, if its a carbon fibre PP copy can i have first shout on it ;)

  15. I got the Fabbri short screen just as the weather turned wet..........only did a few miles but very pleased with the looks and the lower noise than the standard screen. I'm not too bothered about the lack of protection as I had an MV Agusta 1090RR Brutale before the multi which helped build up the old neck muscles a treat :)

  16. Sorry, it's the Ducati larger touring screen (Genuine one).

  17. I think this is the screen I will end up with, think it will look better on my touring S than CF anyway ;0

  18. I've been really pleased with how much better this new screen is for cutting down noise and buffeting.
