so im about to start looking for a trackbike but seemingly there are loads without V5 documents. is this a major problem. sure I can understand how a bike may not have a V5 either it is stolen or written off AND the V5 retained by dvla (but surely the bike was meant to be scrapped too) whats your experience
My GSXR600 has no V5, it was built from scratch as a TT bike and has never been registered. as long as the frame and engine numbers are intact its normally ok, if you are nervous you can get a friendly dealer to run a check on them to see if its been stolen / crashed. if they are missing then definitely walk away unless it is an unstamped race only frame (normally they come with history and receipts to prove it).
Bit of a minefield. But as stated, a bit of research should keep things in line. A mate of mine was at Cadwell on an evening session and he said the old bill turned up. Dunno what for but he said a good few bikes were hastily reloaded into respective vans.... I had a 999S lifted from my garage (firmly anchored, or so I thought). It was probably stripped for spares but I still have a long hard look at 999's at trackdays.
