Track Day Tyres For New Rider

  1. What’s the recommendation for a newish track rider on a dedicated track bike (daytona 675)? I’ve been on track with Supercorsa SPs previously which were fine, not holding me back of course.

Booked some TDs in April with No limits and they suggest Dunlop 212s GP med/endurance (non slick). Definitely wouldn't mind having more grip, but want to avoid high temperature sensitivity. Even if I have warmers the tyres will probably be cold by turn 3 anyway! Don't want to be fussing with warmers at the start, but can rent for 20 quid.

I bought the bike with used Racetec RR k1/k2, so those would be an option too but it would be k2/k2. Could just stick some Supercorsa SPs or equivalent street tyre also, if not using warmers is going to result in worse performance on the 'TD' options.

  2. I ran a D675 on Rosso Corsa 2’s in the colder months of last year. They coped well at inters pace.
I will be running s22’s on my GSXR in the colder months of this season.
The Dunlops would be good too. Pays yer money and makes your choice.

  3. I used S22's as well at the back end of last year in both the quick end of inters and slow end of the advanced group, held up well.

  4. On my R6 track bike I wont use anything other than continental race attack, medium rear/front soft - tried a few brands but for grip/price and life these worked out best for me

If its less than 10 degrees need to be a bit careful as they are a bit less grippy, but anything between 10 and 25 degrees they work well for me, just keep on top of pressures as makes a big difference if running a few psi high

My cousin wont use anything other than the dunlops but he seems to get less life out of them but never used them myself

  5. I'm just preparing sorting out tyres for my Multistrada and an R6 for Almeria and I've gone for Diablo Supercorsa SC, V3, SC2's (medium) front and rear for both. Had a set on my Panigale V4 before going to Pirelli Superbike slicks and was very happy with them. Used the Metzeler Racetec RR K3 (endurance) before with no issue but I think I prefer the SC's. 6. I've used dunlops for years. But know changing to metzelers racetec rr k2

  7. We used Metzeler track day slicks in Jerez in September on a Daytona 675, they worked lovely.

  8. Thanks for the responses. First day is 14th April in Donington then Mallory next day. Probably could be cold enough to warrant hypersport street tyres for someone who is speed deficient.

  9. Get your pressures right and some street tyres will be fine. Andy

  10. If you stay with slicks, call Bob at FWR and get Bridgestones V02. He will sort you out on a compound as well. Forget about Dunlop and Metzler.

  11. If you're fairly new to TD's and don't have warmers you probably want more road bias to generate heat quickly.

I'd be tempted to buy some warmers as you will a) get them up to temp and thus more grip from the off = more fast laps over a day b) tyres will last longer as it will be one continuous heat cycle throughout the day, rather than 20 mins every hour.

  12. Yeah I wouldn’t be touching vo2 slicks unless I was a upper inters/fast group rider, or at least a dry warm day nearer June

  13. Warmers are mandatory with slicks, that goes without saying
