Howdo! As a track day novice which are the best track day wets to go for? Also do you run these at the same temps in tyre warmers? And what sort of pressures? Cheers Pablo
I wouldn't bother with tyre warmers with wets, it hardly makes any difference. I've used Pirelli wets and found them to be very confidence inspiring.
WETS FRONT 4 PCS TOTAL - (1 SPEC TO SELECT FROM) (a) 120/70R17 KR222 WA Recommended Tire Pressure – 33 Psi (Cold) REAR 5 PCS TOTAL – (1 SPEC TO SELECT FROM) (a) 190/55R17 KR393 3701 Recommended Tire Pressure – 33 Psi (Cold) Info is for dunlops. Tyre warmers on for 30 mins before use.
Most people don't run wets with warmers as it makes them too soft. MotoGP teams have temperature regulated and adjustable warmers which gives them ability to heat to a lower temp for wets. As for what ones to buy, there's very little in it, they're all just very very good. I've run 12 year old wets in the rain at Silverstone and had a great time
Was chatting to a fella who's done lots of endurance racing, euro level stuff, and he recomended pirelli
Another vote for the Pirellis, though they're all pretty good. Never bothered with tyre warmers on wets. Once you've got your head round how much grip they have, they'll be well up to temp. One thing I will say is tread pattern makes a big difference to feel if not outright grip. Avoid the block type patterns, like in the middle below, the blocks move about a lot more making the bike squirm, which doesn't inspire confidence. https://ww1.motobuykers.com/img/productos/320/1600400_1.jpg
