848 Track Gearing

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by ScottyM, Feb 6, 2024.

  1. I know every track is different, but for someone like me wobbling around mid pack of the fast group on normal trackdays was thinking of going 15/41 from the standard 15/39.
So come on people, can anyone share their opinions….

  2. Depends a bit on the track. You don't want gearing too low that you are redlining 6th gear looking for a 7th. That happened to me once on my 748 (853) with 15/42 gearing (2:1 primary ratio) at around 215 km/h.
    Otherwise I'd say why not.

  3. I’ll count some teeth for you on Saturday….
I did get a bit overhauled down the Hangar Straight at a Ducati day a few years ago, but well and truly made up for it round the twisties…..

  4. My main tracks I use that are local to me are Lydden Hill, which is short, only using 2nd, 3rd and 4th round there. Then there’s Brands Indy and GP using 2nd,3rd,4th,5th and just into 6th on start finish straight.
Hoping to do Donnigton this year.

  5. Down one in the front works well on all but the very fastest (or top speed) tracks. Especially UK
