1200 Track Set-up Discussion

  1. So...im gonna go to the track this Sunday for some practice, and im going on my Multi 14' S for the first time, in previous years i didn't have such electronics on my track bikes so everything was done manually, now i have to deal with some buttons here and just wanna hear if someone has experience with settings on the Multi.

I guess im gonna go TCS at 1 and Sport mode on Default and work on it as the day goes by (damping etc.) but any advise from someone who has been on track with the Multi would be good. Tyre pressure im not sure yet cause i wanna see the temperatures at the day but probably 32/36 psi on the Scorpions.

  2. I would be very cautious with the scorpions on track. You can ride off the side of them on the road without too much effort, so on track I'm not sure I'd be happy with those under me.

  3. Agree, be very careful and especially if cold. They run out of grip before things start scraping, where PR4s and better tyres still grip way beyond that point.

Pre dvt skyhook bike? I used to put mine on rider plus pillion preload, sport and have abs 1 and dtc off or 1 (depending on temp). Have comp at very high setting front and rear to try and iron out hard brake/accelerate squat.

But I was runnning mine in the fast group and am normally edge of tyres on the road (off the rear and screen she front on scorpions) so you need to factor how you ride :)

  4. Oh yea, f 31 r32 pressures were ok on road tyres but the rear may need dropping.

  5. @bradders well i can't say that the scorpions felt really good, ofc it was something i was expecting so no worries but what tyres would you recomend for the multi ? i used to love the dunlop gpracers but i dont think its good for the multi.

  6. Whats the intended use? Are these just for track time or are you doing any touring, etc? Whats the balance between sport riding and general road riding? Does it rain much where you are?

  7. It's a mixture but more fast touring than track time, and no we don't have much rain here! what would you recommend ?

  8. See god then back off?

  9. I’m a fan of PR4 but we have quite a bit of rain and they seem to give me 4k from a rear and 8k front. But if I were not too worried, I’d probably go for the M7RR (?) as lots of people I’ve spoken to love them and they offer more dry grip but still seem to last well. More a sports tourer than a tourer tyre, which means the profile will be a little sharper so nicer IMO to ride on than the flatter scorpion type profile :)

  10. This is why I like PR4, mate on wet-shod race bike 996 and me on a multi fin front for the first half of the video. Almost knee down on road tyres in heavy wet ;)

  12. I don't think they're terribly suited to all-out track use but for the last 2 years on my DVT I've been running with the Bridgestone T30 Evo. They're a sport-touring tyre and I've found them to be an excellent all round tyre for all year round use in the UK in the wettest and coldest times of the year on wet and greasy London roads. In warmer and drier conditions you can easily achieve big lean angles that if you attempted on the Skorpion Trails would have you in the hedgerow, yet the T30 Evo's will still have 15mm of "chicken strip" at the side of the tread.

I'm sure lots of people will say that countless other tyres are totally awesome but I can only tell you about these because I've found them to be sufficiently good to not worry about trying anything else. I think it's safe to say almost any sports-touring tyre from a recognised brand that isn't a half-assed off-road compromise (like the Skorpion Trail) will be a huge improvement.

As soon as I've finished running in my 1260 the Skorpion's are coming off. It looks dead cool not having a chicken strip, but in reality that worries me somewhat, aside from the fact that they literally compromise the Multistrada's true ability on the road.

  13. If I don't get another set of T30 Evo's (I think they've been superseded by the T31 now) then the Pilot Road 4 would be my next choice. I've heard nothing but great things about them, a few of my mates have them but I've just not tried them on my own bikes.

  14. Totally agree @Rainman , it’s nice to use all the tubby (you paid for it!) and running off the rear isn’t too much of an issue of ground clearance allows, but the scorpions can easily run off the front too!

Ran Bridgestone for a few years on sports bikes and never an issue :upyeah:
