I have read a few older posts on the trouble passing track noise tests. I was wondering if it had got any better or whether it was worth putting together a list of where it will and wont pass? As I like my track days I am a bit concerned about buying a bike I cant use on track.
Just buy some dB killers Simon. I use mine in my 1198. its bang on the 105dB and sometimes i need em, sometimes i dont.
It was specific to the pani as it seams to have seperate bigger issues that DB killers dont seem to fix.
No dB killers for Pani yet? Thats a bit silly of them. I understand your concern now. Someone on here must know of an alternative. Come on people wake up.
I have had the termi end cans fitted, and was told with the decibel killers in they make less noise than the std cans. Bike 1199s
The last few td's I did it was the std pani's that were having the difficulty passing. No chance of a 98db day with one though. 102-105 only me thinks
A lot of tracks now allow you to try the drive by if you are close to the static limit. Mine has been fine at Snetterton over the weekend even though it failed by a country mile the static test it was fine on the drive by. They use hidden decibel meters along with a CCTV camera to prove it is you that exceeds the noise barrier. I have the Termi cans and had NO baffles fitted. Obviously it all depends on the track and the tester so don`t quote me if you get refused And I can tell you that you`ll love the bike even more on the track
Frankly i haven't heard of any panigale being finally taken off yet ... little people keep the revs that high that they don't pass the drive by thing... and the killers in the cans Always seem to allow you to have a go... also when measuring : get your engine hot ( 3DB!) and pull in the clutch ( even on the pani, it helps)
Hi Simon, I've just registered to be able to reply to your post since I'm exactly in the position you are in - contemplating buying a Panigale but concerned about the static noise issues: Ducati address Panigale trackday noise issues - Motorcycle news : General news - Visordown I spoke with Francesca from Ducati Customer Services in Bologna last week and she confirmed that contrary to what Ducati UK indicated in the Visordown article last year NO noise test schedule has been conducted (details in above link). My Ducati Dealer contacted Ducati UK on my behalf and received an entirely unhelpful reply: "we are confident that this issue will not present a significantly higher risk to those wishing to take their bike on track...... " etc., etc. Proceeded to contact Oulton and Donington Park, Focused Events and NoLimits, and MSV directly, hoping to receive a definitive answer. From Paul at NoLimits re. a Panigale fitted with Ducati Performance Termi 'slip-ons': 100% YES for Donington (NOISY) and Mallory, Oulton Park standard exhaust only but with bike in Wet mode; from Simon Bonser, Oulton Park's Circuit Manager, a Panigale with standard exhaust system fails the static noise test (Oulton's noise limit is 102db and Panigales read 104dBa) but is fine on the drive-by test and they are therefore allowing them on circuit, but Panigales fitted with none standard exhausts are being Black flagged; reply from Focused Events was a little inconclusive by not making a distinction between standard and non-standard exhaust components; and no reply from Donington or MSV - and I've only tackled Donington, Oulton and Mallory, my 'local' circuits. What about all the others circuits out there? I'd like to do Cadwell, Snetterton or Anglesey next year, and even Brands Hatch perhaps. But would you risk the expense in track day costs and time? The db killer device is a puzzle to me. Is this standard with the Termi 'slip-ons' and full Termi system? And if fitted, could you do a 102dB track day at Oulton Park? Interestingly, I managed three trackdays this year (Donington x2 and Mallory x1) but have yet to see a Panigale on circuit. You can imagine the conversation I would have had with the owner.... Did you take the plunge Simon?
My Pani passed the noise test at Silvertone, Cadwell, Brands Hatch & Snetterton. They all tested the sound differently, but it passed (or was waived).
i don't get this... i carry the EVO and now PRO pipe with the dbkillers that come with the stock baffles from the EVO line. this year i've done : Donington, Brands 2x, Zolder (3x ) , Spa (3days) , Mettet, Assen, Le Mans and now Hockenheim from at least 5 different organisers under 'quit' circumstances and nowhere was i not allowed to have a go. there were even places where they just said they would have to look at what the drive by does as they know it will fail in the static.. nowhere have i seen a Panigale not getting on .. the only time when i got sort of warned was when coming along in a batch of riders and was asked to ride more on my own.. anywhere i go , there are at least 5 Panis
Donnington, Snetterton, Oulton Park, Anglesey & Jerez. All had Pani's out on track during trackdays..........................
Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina allow Pani's and pretty much anything - including the Desmosedici with full gp system..... now THATS loud....
Pani's ran both on Brands Hatch Indy and GP circuits in the last month. Mine (std exhaust) read 105db on the static, and was let onto the track without any comment. Ian
Cheers guys - it all sounds a lot more reassuring. I've only just got to the 600 mile mark to track days will be next year now.
Some chap on another forum has had these fabricated using his stock Termi baffles.. Claims circa 100db. Lowering the DB - Ducati 1199 Forum
