Hi guys looking to purchase a set of second hand leathers just for trackdays. Ive read that they have to be CE approved, now im looking at a set on ebay and the seller told me he doesnt know if it is CE approved and there is no tags saying it is. Their two-peice and they zip around all the way. Does any of you no if they look at trackdays if they are ce approved and how do they check? Im in the UK if it makes any difference.. Cheers
NO they don't check if they are CE approved, they do check that they are in useable condition and that if two piece they zip all the way round. Fat bloke at Cadwell was stopped last month as zips didn't cover his belly. Lost his track day and money.
If I was you I'd look at a one piece for track days , especially if that's all you'd be using them for as they're safer for a start due to not having the weak point of the joining zip. get a back protector as well so remember that in your budget and sizing
I have several one-piece and two piece Dainese suits. The two-pieces aren't cut the same and don't have the same stretchy bits (although they appear to have quite a few stretch panels). The difference in mobility when riding is significant - really significant. I find it very hard to get my knee down in the two pieces, much easier in the one-pieces. You can hang off more easily and stretch out your leg with less fuss. If you want trackday leathers, don't even bother looking at two-pieces. It's not as if there's a shortage of one-pieces on eBay and if there is, go to German eBay. Loads of stuff on there.
Go one peoce if its mainly for trackdays. The damage which can be done from a little slide with 2 piece around the zip can be very unpleasant. After seeing a mate do that I would never track anything other than 1 again
There's a reason racers where one piece leathers and it aint because it makes their arse look saggy. Arlen Ness make some good stuff at a reasonable price, but the fit it very important. You don't want leathers that are too baggy or the armour will move and the leather will snag if/when you come off. Personally, I wouldn't go for second hand, but can understand that these things can be pricey
Thanks for the reply guys! Was asking as there's a set of two-piece leathers fairly cheap and wanted to try trackdays before buying a premium one-piece.
I have a set of one piece leathers, just about brand new, bought from e bay , absolutely nothing wrong with them only selling as I already have a great set of Wolf leathers that fit me perfectly. They are made by buffalo, and size 42 make me an offer!
if either of the guys leathers above aren't the right size try essex bikers centre Essex Bikers Centre '1st Place' for new & pre-owned leathers. - ESSEX BIKERS CENTRE their main business is 2nd hand leathers and the kit they sell is absolutely superb.
I have a set of Belstaff Cobra one piece leathers, all black, size 46, only worn once, no marks or scuffs, suit 6ft tall rider, £100.
Don't do track days but swear by my one-piece set from Scott Leathers - McGuinness wears them too. They do off-the-peg or a custom fit if needed. great stuff.
For me a single piece is the best. I never heard of CE approved. In my experience a single suit is perfect, even if it is budget and old fashioned. Two pieces is good as long as fairly new so the zip looks working well; otherwise if you experience some problem you won't be able to use track and lose the money.
Why not? most us are not extravagant millionaires and have do stuff on some kind of budget, leather doesn't deteriorate, as long as all the seams are good and it hasn't been involved in a major off surely secondhand is fine, I've picked up loads of gear secondhand off ebay in some cases I've saved over 75% and the item is literally like brand new.
ha ha doodle your right there btw do you know hes just went bust AGAIN and mc pint doesn't wear them anymore as most riders have kicked him into touch spar well wide ,you cant go wrong with a rst suit crash tested by a lot of bsb riders every other week
A second vote from me for a one piece suite, and ebay is the place to get them. I just replaced my ancient 1 piece dianese suite which i bought back in 1997 for £1200, with an identical but undamaged one from ebay for £100. Mine had been in god knows how many accidents and so id certainly had my monies worth out of it. Had ebay been around back then, id never have forked out that sort of cash on a new one.
