Traction control

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by OGR, Oct 10, 2013.

  1. What's your experiences of it, can you whack the throttle leant over? have you ever done that? Or is it just another gizmo that's nice to have.
I'm a bit of a luddite with all this electronic control stuff but it is starting to interest me. For example 1-8 settings on a Panigale, what setting are you on when it kicks in riding fast on the roads, has it ever kicked in?
I'd love to have a go on a bike with it for the experience/

  2. Surely a test ride would enlighten you on traction control?

  3. Slung it on my 1098s in the form of a Bazzaz after having it sideways on a cattle grid. Only had it kick in a number of times, depends on what setting it's at. Twice in a wet roundabout when exiting a little ham fisted so was probably worth it there but if set to high I've had it kick in a few times under hard acceleration to. It's not to intrusive, just sounds like it's missing (which in effect it is) would I pay out for it again though?.... Think it's more of a nice to have and could ride quite happily without it.

  4. I had it on my streetfighter and left it on setting 4, I must say that it rarely kicked in but I am not ham fisted with the throttle, so for me it never worked overtime. My current Fireblade has no traction control, which suits me fine.

  5. Totally pointless as far as I'm concerned. I don't ride aggressively enough on road or track to need it. I've had the back slide or step out a few times but have always managed to control it.

I have a second-hand Nemesis unit for my D16 but I can't see myself fitting it unless I improve my riding so much that I actually start bothering the bike on the track. At the moment I am nowhere near.

  6. A lot depends on where you ride and in what weather conditions, if it's always bright dry and sunny then as long as you'r not ham fisted it probably would't do a lot but if you ride all weathers and on back roads it kicks in occasionally, on the Mutly its not that noticeable the bezel lights up on the dash to say that it's working and the back end settles down. Until the Mutly its not something I had used before and I tend to use as much throttle as I think I need when coming out of corners and it probably controls over exuberance. As has been suggested test ride a bike with it fitted everyone has their own preferences.

  7. I bought my Multi in March, the traction control has definitely been valuable several times, and sure that without it would have been in a ditch by now

  8. My 1199 had it, on track in the dry I used setting one with sticky tyres, it allowed wheelies thro 2nd and 3rd the length of donington straight, it also allowed some rear wheel slip enough to feel it move, the limit tho is very high and took a lot of commitment to make it come on riding smoothly. I didn't try just opening the throttle to the stop tho. In the wet with race wets fitted and TC set to allow for this the TC was kicking in a hell of a lot and it was nice to have, still going at a very quick pace.
As a performance aid to help you go quicker and push your limits I like it, as a safety aid I'm not that interested although I was happy to have it in the wet.
For the road it has no interest for me.

  9. I've had mine kick in a few times recently with the dash lights flashing like a flashing thing. Bike felt stable though.

  10. I fitted it to my 1198. I have it at Lvl2. Dont notice it at all. Had it at 8 once and the thing was unrideable. I only want it for those rare occasions where the rear loses traction on a roundabout and nearly highsides you. Like a bit of mud on road or even diesel. Though it wont help if the front goes. Other than that I am not good enough to properly test it.

  11. Watch Kopes onboard vids, looks like he pretty much whacks the throttle at the apex

  12. Whats the general consensus for which Level is best for normal road use. I have mine set to Lvl 2.

  13. Mine's set at 6. The handbook says that levels 1 to 3 will allow the rear to spin and slide exiting corners.

Suppose it's all down to personal choice and experimentation, which is why mine's at level 6.

  14. When I turnt mine off to show a mate in France it was activated, when I turnt it back on it reset to Lvl 8. It was a greasy day and the roads were wet, the TC was banging on all the time and the bike felt unrideable. Its a shame you cant adjust it whilst on the move. I will probably nip out on the bike this weekend and I'll put it to Lvl 6 and see what its like. I may have mine adjusted too high then.

  15. Tyre size can also play a part in how the DTC works. The handbook makes reference to slight variations across tyres of the same size but by different manufacturers. See page 36 of the English Handbook for the 1198S. It recommends adjusting the settings to achieve the best optimal level.

  16. Personally anything other than level one or two gives too much interference
