Afternoon all. A few weeks ago when I got out on my 1198S after a service, it was acting a little odd running up the gears. The traction light kept flashing. It was like it was hesitating. Then I remembered when I bought the bike, the traction was a PITA and I turned it down from Level 8 to 3 or 4. And I don't recall it ever interfering. But this time, I've had to turn it off completely, as even on Level 1 it was stopping me accelerating flat out in the dry. Either I've got a poor memory and I originally turned it off or there is an issue... Any ideas? Thanks
The first place I would look at are the sensor locations to make sure they are securely fixed and the gap between the sensor and sensor ring is correct. If a sensor had been removed during the service, it is really easy to lose one of the shim spacers or even add one. Can’t see why the traction control unit under the seat should be loose but worth checking that as well. Andy
Someone on here had a right ball ache with TC on a 1098 and it was traced to a short on the rear wheel speed sensor iirc.
The front and rear speed sensors are the same, same part number too. And yes, that's your speed sensor on the front wheel.
I believe the sensor provides input for speed, traction control and ABS, 1 at the front located at the bottom of the right (?) fork leg and 1 at the rear on the rear caliper hanger. Andy
And the gyro in the tail unit MUST be mounted perfectly level with the the wires coming out of the top. I spent most of last season experimenting with and troubleshooting this thing.
I had a problem with my rear wheel sensor which was making my bike run like a pig intermittently. The fault was traced to the sensor wire which had got trapped half in the wire conduit along the bottom of the swinging arm. This had chaffed the wire through and interfering with the signal.
