1098 Trading 848 For 1098 How Much £££

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Pras, Feb 16, 2017.

  1. Thinking of trading in my 848 for a 1098.
How much on top should I expect to pay to a dealer?
My plan is to ride my bike there and the 1098 home - the wife will be none the wiser:tearsofjoy:

£1k to £2k max about right?

Edit: for clarification I'm asking about similar same/similar spec base models. Same FSH and mileage.

  3. My guess would be between £3-4K.

    But it is a guess.

  4. There's about £2000 difference between base models with similar mileage on Ebay as an average.
A dealer will have a mark up of between £1 and £2K so I think ET is about right at £3 to £4K :)
Find one you like - ask them and let us know :upyeah:
Have you considered an 1198 - they will more likely hold their value better but be a little more outlay.

  5. another 3-4k vote here. If you have the time, sell private, buy private, then you may hot your range :)

  6. An 1198 is a good shout, still has under seat exhausts so could be mistaken for an 848 by the uninitiated but is, in standard trim, the pinnacle of that shape. Andy

  7. bugger, looks like I will have to go down the private route....

Had the 848 for a year now and when I bought it, a few 1098 where only 1k more expensive - but out of budget....

Yes I would love a 1198 but seems out of budget. Maybe next year another trade up

  8. Don't loose money by changing up again in a year - stretch to an 1198 now and don't lose any money when you finally come to sell it, if you ever do :)

  10. Yep, I think the 1098 / 1198 are at the point where they should be "keepers". The new Ducatis are very different and these belt driven, trellis framed bikes will achieve classic status in time. Get a good one now. ;)

  13. Well it was for @Pras But I think you should buy more bikes too. You've hardly got any. ;) You have an 1198 anyway, but it's got 1098 on the side of it. :confuse:

  14. Must be a prototype :Angelic:

  15. Only if it has the frame number on a bit of cardboard stuck to the headstock. ;)

  16. Spend the 1-2k on biking fun instead.

The 848 is a great bike, I'm sure you could argue the 1X98 is greater. But a week long euro trip, a trip to the TT, and a handful of trackdays, would bring you far more enjoyment than the difference between the two!

Ignore if you're already doing similar AND looking to upgrade the bike :)

  17. But there is a distinctive rattle sound missing in my biking life...

  18. Been to a dealers today, and was offered 5k for mine.
And 2k on top for a 1098. 07 FSH some mods but with standard exhaust. 8kmiles.

Mine has a full leovince 2009 with 13500miles.
If it had a loud can on it I would have done the deal there and then ....

Now I don't know if I should wait for one to come op with race cans already fitted...
    What should I do?:smirkcat:

  19. take your cans off, put back to standard and sell cans seperate.
