Translogic Quickshifter Review (848)

  1. Thought I would do a quick review of the quickshifter I fitted to my 2012 848 evo.
If your thinking of buying one and researching brands etc then like me you have probably not found a great deal of info/feedback on translogic quickshifters, plenty on hm though which seems the preferred option.

    1- The kit.
The one I went for is just a road shift setup. For around £40 more you can get the dual channel sensor which has the option to connect to an external throttle blipper for downshifts.

There is also a quick set adjuster than can be purchased for £37 plus vat which allows you to adjust kill time on the move. Total cost for the one I have is £405 inc vat

As soon as you open the box it just screams quality in every way from the packaging to the parts and wiring harness etc.
It comes with a small ecu and the main loom, 3 different sized shift rods and the sensor itself. Plus a crimping tool (more on this in fitting section)

    2- Fitting.

Although it's not a straight plug and play unit the fitting is very simple with very good instructions should you need them.
I fitted the ecu under the rear seat and after wrapping the loom with self amalgamating tape followed by cloth tape to match the oem loom I ran it along the rear subframe and over the bracing keeping it clear of exhaust heat and road grime. See pics below

The coils on the 848 have a signal wire (grey and blue and grey and green) and this is where the quickshifter connects (hence the crimping tool) I decided to splice in to the original ducati loom for this in case of future coil failure, meaning replacing them won't require removal of the quickshifter wires. I also soldered the connection instead of crimping it. Again I wrapped the loom with cloth tape where possible to give that oem look.
The most difficult part of the fitting is making it look tidy as there isn't a great deal of room for extra connectors/wires but it's still very straight forward!

There is an earth wire that has a ringlet to allow you to connect to the battery earth terminal.
You also need to connect a wire to an ignition live. I connected mine to the run/stop switch circuit where it goes to the 10amp fuse in the small fusebox near the battery.

Next up the shift rod and sensor, the kit comes with 3 shift rods which all have markings so they can be cut down to the right length if required. I used a pipe cutter to cut mine down for a straight clean cut.
Now the shift rod is the same length with the sensor and rose joints as the original was. I chose to run the wire for the sensor along the clutch hose as it gave a little more free movement when shifting than running it along the side stand harness. Plug it in to the loom and job done!

    3- Performance.

Once it was all fitted I turned the ignition on and operated the gear lever to check it was functioning correctly (the ecu has a green light) all was good so I waited for some sunshine and off I went.

I won't lie the first shift to test it was a nervous moment but it was completely seamless! Not even a slight jolt. Now I've been out a few times and it really is a fantastic bit of kit. No false neutrals as yet.

It works just as well at 3000 rpm as it does high up in the Rev range. Partial throttle or full throttle it works just the same. It even works from 1st to 2nd gear which was a surprise due to neutral sometimes being an issue with quickshifters.

Sometimes it gives off a nice crack through the termis. I've not altered any of the kill times through pro tuner mode as it's not needed it. So in that sense it's plug and play.

All in all a cracking product that works very well throughout the Rev range and the quality is spot on.
10 out of 10 from me so far! At some point I will hook up a go pro and get a video so people can see how well it works.
