  1. I bought this 848 race bike a couple of years ago and really enjoyed its revvy engine and sharp handling.
I want to paint the frame red and polish the swing arm. The rear shock needs a service and I dare say wheel and swing arm bearings could use a re-fresh.
Whilst dismantling it I discover some random bolts and nuts, I guess that is privateer racing. A source of good quality replacements would help.
Is it possible to replace the rear subframe with anything lighter?
Is there a labelling method for the wiring loom so I put it back together correctly?
Do I need to drain the water coolant when the engine comes out?
    Anything I missed?
    Added some pics.

  2. Pierbon subframe if you want really nice ;)

Any refresh work, suspension or whatever, can't do much better than @PGP

He may be able to give you some advice on sticking it all back together as well :upyeah:

  3. If you're looking for a lighter subframe then you're after an aluminium one. I managed to get my hands on one and what a difference in weight there was. Stock = approx 3kg, ally = 1 5kg. The 1098R came with one as standard but as stated above there are other alternatives like pierobon etc. Check eBay. The tell tale sign of an aluminium one is that it only has 1 cross brace towards the rear instead of 2. Here's a genuine one on eBay. The seller is splitting a 1098R. I bought a pair of DP mirrors off them. Theres a new global shipping program where all import fees are paid at time of purchase so you know what you're dealing with. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/192915125014

As for the coolant, I believe if you don't want to drain any fluids you will need to remove the radiator and oil cooler in conjunction with the engine which may be tricky.

With wiring, I use "post its" used for bookmarking and wrap them round the relevant wire with a note of what it's for. There is a wiring diagram in the workshop manual which can be found doing a Google search. https://cdn.officestationery.co.uk/...t-Page-Markers-Assorted-Pack-of-500-670-5.jpg

I use this site for part numbers and then contact my local Ducati dealer. Part numbers have never failed and prices are always accurate. https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/ducati-motorcycle/Superbike

    Hope this helps mate.

  4. It more than helps, so much so I apologise in advance for asking you more daft questions. Thank you.

  5. No worries, that's what forums are all about. I'm in the middle of doing my bike up as well so every bit of help counts

  6. I bid $275 for the ally subframe, he came down to $299, is that a good price? I can collect in NY.
I bought the carbon belt covers for $150.

  7. I would say so. I got mine for £200. The current RRP is £1127 so anything around 300 is decent and definitely worth the weight saving. It is very significant. Also, i would always bid in the middle of what every counter off was until it is accepted.

  8. Got her up on the bike lift. Exhausts will be polished using my new polishing wheel. Electrics will be labelled and detached to extract the engine.
