hi guys can some please explain what this means?? ive found a set of 30mm offset for my track bike but a. i dont know what the difference would be over stock, would i benifit from fitting them?? b, would i have to change any thing else. cheers
What's your stock size? I would imagine the more offset then the slower the steering would be as it increases the trail on a given set up. More stability at high speed too... I would imagine from road to track application you would look to keep standard or decrease slightly.
im just running standard clamps at the mo mate but adjusted on the head stock for the shorter wheel base. if that makes sense?
If you intend to use the quicker steering angle (23.5 degrees) it is adviseable to use the 30mm off set triple clamp. If you are not, I wouldn't bother. Andy
You can buy triple clamps with adjustable offsets. Not cheap but if you are serious about racing/trackdays it adds a bit of extra adjustability and interest on geometries to suit your riding. i am running 23.5 rake at the mo,i only use for the bike for track days not racing,if i did get some triples are they really going to make much difference??
Only you can say whether they make a difference to your riding but if you want to understand how to change a bike's set up and make it handle more to your style then its a very useful tool to have.
I have the ducati performance magnesium triple clamps fitted to my bike .I also had a longer swingarm fitted at the same time and Rick Hackett (JHP) set it all to perfection as usual.Mine is for road use only.Im sure Rick said they bring the forks back slightly placing more weight over the front of bike but maybe im getting this mixed up. Been told the triple clamps hold up better in a crash also compared to standard ducati items for track bikes.Think febur might still get mag or for alloy see below links and some more chat on the subject - Nichols adjustable offset triple clamp kit for 1098 - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum Nichols Sport Bikes | Products | Superbike Triple Clamp Kits
Indeed and combined with the longer swingarm means that the central mass of the bike is now further forward meaning weight distribution is more front biased.
this is the thing ....by making the 23.5 alteration away from the 24.5 with no other modification all you have really done is lose 6mm of trail...ie front end feel...moving the bikes numbers ( in this case 91mm ) dangerously close to the front end tucking and no front end feel... by putting 30m offset yokes on you would get the 6mm of trail back!
so andyb what your saying is if i put it back to 24.5 rake and leave every thing else alone i wouldnt need to put the 30mm clamps on as i would effectivly put it back to standard lenght anyway. is that right??
24.5 rake would give you 97mm trail.....not particularly brilliant but good considering the std ducati issues....of course if at 24.5 you put 30 mm triples on you would get 103mm trail.......which is good....... its all about the overall set up not just one thing...
Off sets only needed with long swingarm and 23.5' rake essentially. Matt Corse seems to have gone offsets long swingarm and 24.5.. If it works happy out . Lets dance, put on your red shoes and dance the blues. Time to get to the bar again. Run he said.
I think it may be worth spending money on a profesional suspesion setup. Then take advice from those that know what more you can do,if you need to.
Im sure the old engine builder at Ducati cov/JHP used 998R for track only & had the dp mag offset yokes on his bike but standard swingarm. So are the yokes a must with a longer swingarm but the longer swingarm is optional and not a must when fitting the offset yokes ?.
