Tt 2017 Recommendations

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Pavey, Jun 23, 2016.

  1. We hope to go next year. I must admit i haven't looked, are the ferry tickets released yet or if not when do they become available?

Any recommendations on where to stay? A few of the guys want a B&B, a few want to camp so at the moment it's undecided. We will have a camper van going over too to take the tents etc should we decide to camp.

Would need a B&B for about 6 people. Last year we camped near the Douglas Golf Club, which was ok. Anywhere better, maybe over the other side for a change?

  2. Be absolutely gobsmacked if you can get a group booking done on the steam packet website now. I had trouble booking for one back at the end of May. They always go on sale when the TT practice week starts the year before but you should be able to get a few returns in February when everyone has to pay the balance and people drop out.

  3. Ferry tickets came out during the 2016 one so you might struggle to get them. I know we did in 2013 and had to postpone going until 2014.

We camped in 2014 at St Johns football club at Ballycraine. Good site, pretty good facilities and not that expensive....

  4. Castletown and Port Errin are nice and tucked away from the usual hussle and bustle. We stayed at a farm called Pooil Vaish Farm off a track at the start of the S100 start line, £26/night B&B. Why would anyone want to camp at that price?

  5. From my maths the race week start on the 3rd of June. Looks like the only ferry date available now is the 5th, which is the Monday, but getting back may be a problem....

Should of looked earlier i guess.

  6. I booked back at the end of May and i couldn't get dates to fit in the senior tt - hoping to be able to change them when the returns come back in Feb. I think the steam packet crew sold 20k tickets in 3 days or something ridiculous like that.

  7. Camp at Douglas rugby club ok facilities and walking distance to town centre, foot passenger tickets should be ok on ferry but as been said any form of motorised transport you will be looking at returns in feb or cancellations. really decent BBs generally booked up 3 years + in advanced.

  8. Yeah - we booked while we were there and still got pretty shitty times...but I check back in at least twice a week to see if I can move the dates....

Any where is not far on the island from the track to be hones so it doesn't matter where you stay...to a certain extent...

  9. How do you find these gems pete? It's almost like you've got access to some sort of huge, global searchable database that you can put questions into and it knows how to spit out helpful answers?.
If this catches on who knows what might happen!
