999 two tone 999 ...which colour?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yellowducmaniac, Apr 4, 2014.

  1. Just acquired a very cheap pair of lower side fairing panels off a dark model for my 999S,they are a bit scuffed and tatty but not unrepairable, and i'm planning to clean them up and ask my mate (professional sprayer) to spray them a different colour to the yellow of my bike....what colour would look best with yellow?...i'm thinking silver to match the frame or possibly a shade of grey, what would you artistic minded guys out there suggest?...obviously i'm keeping the originals ,this is just a bit of fun for a different look.:D

  2. carbon wrap them

  3. No, no, no,
Take the rest of your panels off and get them all painted Red.
Best mod you can do - cost v power & speed!!

  5. Does it matter? It's still going to be the slower yellow model no matter what.

  6. Yeah yeah, sticks and stones bla bla etc......my "slower" yella bella is more than fast enough for me:D ...i should have known this thread would turn into a yellow bashing session.

  8. Black and white to match the rest?

  9. It true. Red slips through the air easier. It's all about the molecules in the paint. :upyeah:

  10. Obviously red is the preferred colour, with yellow a close second - both trumped by tricolore for pose value ;)

However, in this situation, I'd take the opportunity to do something a bit different. The light blue bike that has been posted up around here looks great. How about a dark metallic red?

  11. [IMG] Gotta be matte steel grey with gloss yellow me thinks!!![IMG]

  18. They look alright I think :upyeah:

  19. The colour is good, its the angle of your seam to the yellow top fairing that is throwing the look off a bit, try this....... Put some masking tape on the lower tube of the seat frame, pull the tape towards the front wheel at the same angle as the tubing, this gives a sight line through the picture your looking at, paint above the tape yellow, keep the grey, lose the louigi sticker due to the green, get a yellow "Ducati PERFORMANCE" decal to place horizontally right at the bottom of the lower fairing, if you really want to pull it together then paint the 2 recesses (oil check & fairing bolt hole) yellow................ Its the angle of that fairing join that's throwing your eyes not the colour..... I guess this is where I get slated!!!!! Looks good though

  20. I mean no offence but I don't think it looks very "striking"... Love the full yellow and the idea of the 2 tone but personally I don't think the silver does it any justice...
