V4 Tyre Choice- Squaring Off

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Skye Hook, Aug 7, 2023.

  1. Any thoughts on an alternative tyre choice for the V4s Multi? the standard Scorpion trail II are OK but boy oh boy do they get square quickly, and i don't hang about either.
The front is done (1 to 1.5 rear ratio roughly) a lumpy U with very little left on the sides whilst that damned rear is still very much alive and well but so horribly square that it is embarrasing, and the handling does feel a bit abrupt now too rather than smooth.

What would you heroes reccomend for spirited riding and some distance work?

  2. Boringly predictable reply: i had to give up on my favoured Diablo Corsas on the Multistrada - wasn't getting more than 2300 miles from them, with the rear squaring off around 1500. Since then, I've been on various generations of Pilot Road - I typically get about 5300 from a rear, with squaring off not being an issue until about 4500 miles. I've just fitted a Road 6 on the back - not even scrubbed in yet, so don't know how much of an improvement they'll be.

  3. thanks Ethel, that's on a V4 too is it? have you got any comment on the P.R 6 so far?

  4. No, that’s on a1200, but there’s not a massive difference - a bit more power and weight on the V4 obvs. No observations yet - have only ridden back from the fitter’s in pouring rain so far!

  5. Well apart from wheel size and tyre sizes so a big difference and also the way the V4 lays its power compared to the 1200.. On every V4 I have seen with Road 5 or Road 6 they also square off and destroy themselves as they are essential a wet tyre with lots of grooves . On a Gs 1250 the most I got on a fast tour was 1500 miles and boy they were fooked and spoilt the last 2 days.

  6. my thoughts too, having had a couple of 1200 multis,a different beast altogether. So what is your call captain, do you stick to Scorpion Trail 2 and suffer the shame of the square ntyre or are there legitimate alternatives?

  11. The tyres are TA3 not the RA4 as the RA 4 seems not to have the same sure feel as the the TA3 , took a set of after 2 ride out as felt a bit vague and the the rear felt slow. TA3 all you need.
