Hi folks. Please excuse the Rookie question on a well trodden subject, but what tyre pressures are people running in sports tyres for road use? Despite riding for 15 years, I've never really experimented much with tyre pressures and generally run them at book pressure. But...I had a full setup done on my bike on Friday and part of that was advice on tyre pressures. The guy is a bit of a guru on this stuff and he told me to set the tyres to 2.1 front and 2.0 rear. So far they seem fine, but coupled with the suspension setup the whole bike feels so different that I can't tell if I want to continue with these pressures or now. The book for my 848 says 2.1 front, 2.2 rear. Now the front being 2.1 Bar looks to be right, but the query relates to the rear. I was advised to run the rear quite a bit softer than the book and crucially that also means at a lower pressure than the front. I sort of understand this as the rear must surely get hotter than the front given that it has more work to do but how can the book and the advice be so different? It doesn't appear to relate to tyre choice either as he wasn't overly interested in what tyres I was running, only the pressures. I am going to try it out as it is with the rear at 2.0 but then try again with it at 2.2, but what pressures do people run and should pressures vary between tyre models? Cheers. Andy
Because the book pressures are a "do it all ok" pressure. Does the bike feel bad with new setup? 0.2 bar is only 3psi (ish) difference. It wont do any harm to the tyres to up them a bit and see if you like the handling then. But seeing as you paid out for a "guru" to do the set up why not use it for a while then re-evaluate.
I agree to be honest, I want to give them a go like that for a wee while and see how I get on. I was just curious to see if folk have found much of a difference if they've played about with pressures. He said to me that 1psi might not seem much but that it can make a big difference to the feel of the bike, hence I figured it was worth asking about.
Do you know what setting he put on your bike, i had mine done and all they did is go +1 click on the front, put the rear to the softies setting and said go for a 75 rear spring Richie
32/34 here on my 848 and drop to 30/27 on track with these Bridgestones. Tend to run BSBs a little lower on the road 32/32 normally Dunlops on my race bike I'd run dry 28/26 or wet 28/25
My SPS with Pirelli Diablo's I run with 37 rear 32 front, and my SS with Bridgestone BT021's I run 36 rear and 32psi in the front, and I'm a bit more than AL's 12 stone
