1260 Tyre Pressures

  1. Does everyone run their tyres (Scorpian ll) at 36 and 36. I noticed mine were set by the dealer at 36f 42r.

  2. My 2017 DVT came delivered on 36/42 but I’ve subsequently run it at 36/36. For single rider plus commuting luggage.

  3. I have PR5's on my 1260 and run them at 34F and 38R - as suggested by the Michelin rep.

  4. What do you think of the PR5s? How do they compare with the scorpion IIs?

  5. 36 36 A’s per manual increase rear with pillion and luggage:)

  6. I cant comment on the Scorpion 2's as I had PR5's from new. I don't like "dual" purpose tyres. IMO dual purpose tyres are not good at one thing or the other.

So far 2k miles on the PR5's in all weathers and one little slip on a corner exit in the wet, could have been road surface or my provocation but good feedback and easily corrected. Interesting that you can see the different compounds on the PR5 the centre looks clean and greyish and the edges look blacker and a bit ruffled where the softer compound has gripped the road, definitely a line where the two compounds can be seen.

Overall they are equally as good as the PR4's so far and we shall see how they wear in a month or two after two trips abroad. at the moment the front seems to be wearing more than the rear.

  7. I agree, I was a bit concerned when I 1st saw the different compound colour on mine, thought id got a defective tyre at 1st! But I guess nothing to worry about, that's development for you.

So far only done 1000 miles on mine from new, but more than happy with feedback and grip so far, if they last like my PR4's did then ill be more than happy

  8. I've got Roadtec 01's on my 2017 PP. love them. I'm running them at 36PSI F and 42R based on what the fitter recommended... but Metzeler product guide clearly says 42 F and 42 R (2.9 Bar) as standard for all 1200 and 1260 Mulitis from 2015 onwards. Any views from other Roadtec 01 users?

  9. My daughter sells tyres at bike tyres Leeds. She says the rep quotes. After 4000 miles of average type riding (Close your ears Wayne) the tyres will have as much grip left as a new PR4. Average life 7000 miles. Whether that is a load of rep spew i don,t know. Will find out soon as my Trail 2,s are getting squared off with 4000 very steady miles on them.

  10. Sorry to dig this up, but I'm sat on the channel tunnel train headed back to Europe and I thought I'd check as I thought the dealer was being a bit OTT with pressures... He's running 44psi on the front and 46psi on the rear! I didn't think much of it as it was in bar and I don't know the conversion off by heart. So assumed the dealer had put the correct pressures...

Why have they set them so fucking high???

  11. The pressures will rise slightly when the tyres are warm but 44,46 are far too high. There’s arguments for checking hot / cold etc, but that’s mainly to do with road vs track. I think I would tell the dealer, he might simply have a faulty pressure gauge.
You could always suggest that he does a recall on every tyre they’ve set.

  12. I always run as per the book, so 36/36, and handling/ tyre wear seem to be spot on. They go up a bit when warm, but not that much!

I like your plan to be stuck in Europe over lockdown! :D

  13. 36F/36R (2.5bar) for me, which I alter when riding 'loaded', to 36F (2.5bar)/42R (2.9bar).
Regarding mileage on Road5's, I've just taken a pair off of mine and managed to get around 5-5.5k on varied riding, mostly touring across varied terrain/road surface quality, but no goat-tracks! Great tyres for me, but next time I'm going to try Metzeler RoadTec 01SE's.

  14. 36/42

I’m running Sportec 7RRs. I tried 36 rear but turn in feels better at 42.

  15. I ran the Scorpions 2 from new then changed to the PR5’s. The PR5’s are a great improvement, they feel softer so improved ride quality and feed back, brilliant grip and warm up reasonable well on warm days, I ride through the winter and they have been spot on, they tip into corners much easier and mine have over 3000 miles on them now and still look like new except for the banding wear marks across the compounds but that’s normal, I run them at F36 R36 and will stay on PR5’s when the time comes to change!

  16. I've got the RoadTec 01SE's on mine now. Great tyres for grip and feel, wet or dry. Can't say about mileage yet as I've only had them on a couple of thousand miles. Running them at 36 and 42.

  17. Same as mine, bloody awesome tyres. Unlike the Karoos on my 790R, on wet roads!

  18. I'm trying to burn through the scorpions that come with the bike at the moment, they are awful, give zero confidence, very little feedback, wet grip isn't great. Not a fan at all.

I'll be going to PR5's for sure. Heard nothing but great things.

  19. I have run Road 5's for many years now and run them at 34F and 38R Solo rider - Plus 2 (F&R) for luggage and Plus another 2 on the rear for a Pillion and Luggage. Those numbers came from a chat at the NEC show in 2019 with a Michelin Techie on their stand. Works for me.
