I've been doing a lot of motorway miles recently, and noticed this today. It is just on one patch, not around the whole circumference - but after an hour of riding it had deco got worse. Can anyone explain what's going on and how serious it is? Is it a "stop riding immediately" or a "you'll be ok for a few hundred more miles"? They are Diablo Rosso Corsas by the way.
No its fine. good for another 2000 upright , slow down for the corners because im scared miles. No really, its about to become carpet underlay and bare all its aramid fibres.
Tell your gran she needs a new tyre, it's obviously been ridden upright for far to many miles. Didn't realise you could get Corsa's for scooters.
Turn the tyre around the other way, you'll get at least 1000 miles out of it that way. Some of them in the air ambulance.
+1 with Iainw. I saw that on an OEM Scorpion shortly before the canvas appeared, it's gone, change it now.
I'm getting some new ones fitted on Wednesday. I won't be going for Diablo Rosso Corsas though - these haven't yet done 2,500 miles - I only put them on a few weeks ago. Should've got a dual compound tyre really, but that was before my new 15,000 mile riding plan so I didn't realise how much motorway stuff I'd end up doing. On the plus side they have been exceptionally grippy in the dry, and pretty good in the wet.
What you're seeing is the first few layers of tyre construction before the canvas. Keep riding and it won't be long before you hear a pop, the unmistakable noise of plastic and metal scraping down the road, the sound of an approaching air ambulance then the beep of medical equipment. Please change it mate.
Like @Exige I've never seen this pattern before ... but then I've never done so many motorway miles before!
Had a tyre go like that a few years ago. I was 150 miles from home. Took it easy, checking it every so often. It didn't get any worse and got back ok.
Ride it for another 100 miles or so and it'll look like this :- It Was Okay When I Went Out......... | Ducati Forum
Blimey - 3,000 miles! Seems the centre of these Rosso Corsas don't fair well. I've opted for the new Bridgestone RS10 this time - it'll be interesting to see if they live up to all the hype.
Pirelli are renowned for going limit to carcass in a hundred miles If you are still planning on a few miles heading into autumn throw some PR4s on there, if they fit
I've just got a trip to LHR and back and then a 4-day trip to Cochem and the 'Ring at the end of August. After that the bike will probably be at JHP for the next six months while we wait for Giovanni or some such in Bologna to make the replacement parts that'll be needed under warranty.
