Tyres For 848

  1. Morning All,
I'm yet to pick-up my used 848 but have done a heap of reading on all things.

The one thing that struck me was that there are many complaints about getting the 848 tipped into a corner. My bike will need new tyres when I pick it up, so with the above in mind, which tyre would you recommend? It will only be used on the road, primarily on dry days and just for fun.

I realise many other factors contribute to the problem, but I'd like to address this one first, if indeed it is a problem for me. It may be that I like the handling as is. Just gathering as much info as I can before splashing out on new boots.

  2. When I had my last 848 a few years back, I switched from the SuperCorsa SP's to a Dunlop Sportsmart 2 mainly because I wanted something that lasted a full summer (which tbf in the UK is like 3 days spread across may). Tyres with a slightly flatter profile on the front definitely don't help the 848 chassis which benefits from a 'pointier' profile but tbh I think when you weigh up factors like tyre life and what you need should you get caught out in the wet etc it kinda evens out.

I've got supercorsa's on my new (to me) 848 and they do offer loads of grip and feel I have to say, I'll probably try to stick with them or maybe try the new Diablo Corsa 2 which is still a focussed sport tyre but has some new compounds etc and may offer a tiny bit better mileage?

  3. If you want turn in, supercorsa or similar but don't expect much life (maybe 1200-2k miles from a pair).

Or, get some tyres that may work as sports tourers, the m7rr people rave about, get twice the mileage and have the suspension set up. The 848 is very customisable for chassis

  4. Good advice, thanks.

  5. If I may put my two penneth in? I ride a 998s, well, occasionally anyway. Was fitted with some Diablo's but they had to go as they were worn. I'd describe my riding style as enthusiastic, but no track days or knee down stuff anymore. This year the bike just felt "wooden" is the best way I can describe. I am also very rider rusty.
Anyway, I went with the M7RR and oh my goodness, transformed the bike. Out today and it is a different animal, so much so that I may even try some knee down stuff!!!!!!!!! Well, perhaps not, but you get my drift.
Always had Pirellis on my Ducatis. Had five 748,996,998 etc. Without doubt, these M7rr are the best tyres I've ever had.
