Tyres, Prices And Choice For Panigale V2

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Fraz, May 6, 2022.

  1. I'm needing some new tyres for my Panigale V2, it currently has Rosso 2 on which I've gone through alarmingly quick.

Moto Rapido just quoted me £500 which was a shock even knowing everything has gone nuts price wise. Does anyone have any other recommendations for tyres? I don't ride track, just roads and I'm spirited.

    Thanks

  3. £500 sobs for tyres! Theyre taking the piss. Supercorsa SC V3's from FWR at £360 pair plus £20-30 sobs to get some chuffer to fit them for you.

Prob not supercorsas though if you think the rossos wore out quick. Stick with them would be my advice. Grip is more important than mileage to me.

  4. I thought it seemed steep. I've check for the tyres delivered online and it's more like £300, so £200 to fit!

  5. To be fair to MR, selling a few tyres is for customer convenience and the few tyres they do keep in stock, had to be ordered through Ducati who dictate the price. No franchised bike dealer would be able to match the buying power of the big internet middlemen or specialist outlets. Andy

  6. I always shop around for tyres once I have decided on brand etc.
In recent times I've found the best prices are the 'Pair' deals from Demon Tweeks and Tyre Tec trading, but that's not always the case.
Although stock varies massively between outlets and you may find you have to buy from whoever has stock at the time.

My latest purchase for your comparison is a pair of 120/70-17 58W & 180/55-17 73W Metzeler SPORTEC M7 RR from Tyre Tec for £230.95 inc delivery.

My local Tyre place charges me £25 per tyre to fit once they arrive, including fitting, balancing, and disposing of the old tyre.
But I do take in loose wheels to have them fitted.

  7. £500, that's insane.
Who in there right mind would pay that for a pair of tyres when the tyres themselves are around half that.
    Unbelievable.

  8. £326 for a pair of Bridgestone S22's fitted at my local tyre place.

  9. Dont buy from the dealer/stealer.

  10. I’ve just had a Pirelli Angel GT2 fitted to the rear, drive in drive out for £189. This was in Stourbridge tho so not a great use to you but you’ll get tyres cheaper than £500. I researched tyres and hopefully I’ll get more mileage from this tyre, I don’t do track days and I’m not especially a fast rider.

  11. Get yourself a set of Metzeler M9RR’s. You’ll love them. Much quicker to turn, they warm up quickly and give great grip. Everyone and I mean everyone that I’ve recommended the M7’s or M9’s has loved them.

Try Oponeo for a price and go from there.

  12. No disrespect at all to Fraz, but I'm genuinely surprised anyone would even consider it.

  13. @Fraz just do yourself a big favour and go get yourself a set of Bridgestone S22s fitted, I’ve tried a few different tyres on my 899 and these suit it perfectly …

Edge to edge grip and the tyre above has done about 2,000 miles already, so I reckon it’ll do a good 3,000 miles out of the rear.
They come in the weird 180/60 size as well so perfect for the 899 / 959 / V2 Panigale’s
I buy my tyres on line and they are around £260 per set, but I know prices have shot up recently.
I bought a Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx tour bike the other year and it came as standard with these Bridgestones on and they impressed me so much on that big Heffer that I decided to try them on the Panigale, very pleased with them .
Might be tempted to try the Metzeler M9 RR’s just out of curiosity sometime, providing they do a 180/60 rear size ?

  14. Pretty much exactly what I was thinking! Dealers don’t sell many my son had one from Sheffield Ducati after he spotted some threads on his V4S last year and they got him out of trouble by swapping him the rear of their own demo bike and ordered the replacement to replace theirs.
Dealer showroom costs to add in not tyre depot unit, rates etc etc. they’re never going to compete on price!
I would go to my car dealer for tyres either!

  15. @Fraz what did you go for in the end?

  16. Michelin Power Cup 5 are my preference

  17. You’d better not buy a Harley Pan America. Fitted at the dealer £949 for a set of Harley badged tyres. Unbelievable.
