Tyres - There's Always A Tyres Question

  1. So new to the V4, managed to get out for a ride on new years days. Lucky me, covered some decent miles but developed a puncture and the way back. Was 4.5psi by the time I got home. I did notice something was wrong but thought it was electronics. Still learning the bikes characteristics somewhat.

Anyway, Sso thinking these supercorsa SP's tyres are probably too soft for the road and the wear markers on the edge are already wearing thin.
I do both track and road. On my R1, I got on well with the Rosso Corsa 2's last year and just wondering what other V4 owners are using and their experiences.

  2. I have the rosso corsa 2's on my road bike (aprilia touno)..so far pretty impressed (for normal road use).
However last year i had the rosso corsa 2's on my track bike and had an issue with the rear tyre (compound split/separated) got a full credit note with Nolimits so im going to try the metzler TD Slicks this year.

  3. I have Rosso Corsa 2’s on my Pani R. It’s road only and the tyres are great.

I have used the same tyres on track (Inters) on my 675 Daytona and 996 and have found them to be pretty good. I have had the odd slide on very hot days but nothing too pants staining.
If it’s mainly road and the very odd track day and your not fast group then you would most likely be fine. Especially with the v4 electrics. If you are fast or lots of track use I’d get a more track specific tyre.

  4. Yes, i totally agree, thats why ive changed to the TD slicks for track use

  5. Metzeler Racetech RR K3's or Pirelli Supercorsa SC V3 SC3's. Andy

  6. Thanks for the replies, Its about 1 trackday a month for 6 months, this is my general quota and then the road riding. The bridgestone VO2's are my tyre of choice for slicks but not looking to change out tyres after each trackday. I tried the R11's for track too thinking they would give better tyre life. This wasnt the case in the end. No doubt the V4 might chew tyres differently. The rosso corso 2 was sufficent to cover me last year on the R1 but a very different bike.

  7. If you want the OEM size (200 x 60) on the back, your choices are limited. The Rossi Corsa II is available in that size and I currently have them on mine. I don’t like them. It was really galling last year in Germany to discover that Metzler M9RRs are available in that size. Get back to UK to find that the largest size available to us is 200 by 55 (unless anyone on here knows better…)

  8. Good aren’t they (TD Slicks):)

  9. I wouldn't sweat it, just use the tire setup and run the 55. The Metz and Pirelli are very similar, probably the same data shared between divisions. Get a woodworkers profile gauge like this,
    [IMG]
and check the actual profile between tires, you will be amused at how the numbers bear no connection to reality.

  11. absolutely this. According to mr Pirelli, they’re all but the same bar the metz has a higher silica content whereas the Pirelli is more rubber which gives the Pirelli better initial hook up but means it goes off quicker.

Pretty much what I’ve experienced, don’t know about you.

  12. Concur, the Pirellis are absolutely awesome until they go off. As mentioned elsewhere its like dropping off a cliff. They are also not very forgiving if you have incorrect pressures.

  13. The most important measurement is the tire diameter, this really does make a significant difference to handling and its always been annoying to me the this info is usually hard to find on manufacturers sites which is why its good to have a tape measure when browsing for new hoops.

  14. My experience of the two is that Rosso Corsa II has good grip but the profile deteriorates quickly, the carcass is soft and as others have said they go from good to bad very quickly when they go. M9RR is a much more modern tyre (RCII has been out for ages), does not have the outright grip of the Pirelli, but works better in cold or wet conditions and keeps its profile for longer.
That’s my experience, other viewers may have different opinions…

  15. Surprised s22’s haven’t been mentioned yet.

    If they have apologies.

  16. Currently on PowerCup 2's, havent fully explored them but initial impressions are excellent.

  17. Mmmmm. Easily as good as RC 2’s. I have a set on my GSXR currently which will become ‘wets’ (aka slightly damp because I’m a chicken) on the same come spring.
    They last

    Forever as well.

  18. Rosso 3’s or S22’s is all you’ll ever need for the road
