I replaced my original Scorps - toast at 3,000 miles - with PR3s and have been very happy with them, particularly the wear (they've done 6,500 miles and will probably do a few more). They are mostly run hot because I mostly use my Multi for long distances. But I am wondering whether to go for PR4s this time around. I've read all the previous posts on the subject but does anyone have any long-term experience with them to share? (Bearing in mind, of course, that they've only been out s fairly short time.) Though wet-weather grip is a bonus, I'm really looking for dry-weather performance as I try not to get caught out in the rain because I would rather prop up the bar in my local on wet days than risk life and limb on the **** roads here in the South-East! Thanks for your input!
Looks like no one has anything to add! I got myself some pr4's after the scorpions failed at 5000 miles! At 12000 miles I still have a lot of tread left, so am mega happy with the michelin's!
I'm looking to try the Dunlop sportsmart 2's, had the originals on both my blade and v4 Tuono and couldn't fault them for wear or grip. They're about as slippy as you can get when brand new so be careful, nearly high sided the blade on the first roundabout to be fair they were brilliant though, best tyre id used for road/track style riding as they are good in the wet. track only is a different story and will always stick with metzelers
PR4s should be better than PR3s in the dry because there are fewer sipes and the pattern is different. Also, the PR4 rear should last longer because it's hard compound in the middle and medium on the edge, whereas the 3s were medium and soft. I don't think they'll be any worse in the wet, though.
What's the wear like? I'm very impressed with the wear/grip ratio on the PR series, having used 2s and 3s. Thanks.
Have always had Dunlop sport smarts and now the smart 2, omg they are good, especially the new version, I looked at Pr4 and they do look good, but the different versions etc put me off and the bike fitters said that they are definetly more tour-y rather than sport-y which is the direction that the sportsmarts have stayed in and the Pr4 moved away from (because they now fitted on the GS bm'er which is for the more slower/older gentlemen). bugs.
Pr4 = longer life Pr3 = more grip Tyre Selector | MICHELIN - Motorcycle - United Kingdom That's how I read it. So Pr3 again or Pirelli Angel GT for me. Plenty grip from the Micehlins, just not sure about the front tyre at speed (may be excess rider input on the wide bars from me) I think Pr2s were showing less wear per mile but cannot compare back to back as this was on different bikes. If the Scorpions had worn/lasted better then that would be my choice. Superb wet or dry (once warmed up) but 2k and gone off and 2.7k needed changing with strange front tyre wear on the sides not what I expect.
I've found Metzeler Z8s to be better than PR3s on other bikes, so I've just put a pair on my Multi to see if it's true there too.
PR4s fitted about 3 weeks ago. Done about 400 miles replacing the Scorpions. Dry weather fun on the lovely Welsh roads. Great grip and a noticeable difference over the Scorpions. Turn in much better. Pleased so far!
Cannot give enough praise to the angel gt's I have on my 2013. I have just passed 5k and there is plenty of wear left, about 1.5k I reckon, I have ridden them right of the edge and they never slipped once! Brilliant in the dry and wet , I have done a track day on them and toured 2 up! I am putting on a new rear as I am going around Spain and France in june and will be doing 2-3k the front is absolutely fine! Saying that I find all the top companies sport touring tyres amazing now, metzeler z8 on my speed triple have been brilliant as have bridgestones t20 that I did the elites on at haslems!
would you put the Z8 on the multi,i am thinking that way, tired of the Michelins now, excuse the pun.
I'm on my second set of GT Angels. They are fantastic tyres for the Multi in the dry and wet. I went touring in Europe, both with pillion and alone, and they always impressed. Got about 5.5K out of front and rear. I could have squeezed a bit more out of them but off to Scotland in couple of weeks.
I was impressed by the GT's coming from PR3's before. They've lasted 7.5k and have just started to hit the wear lines on the front edges and on the centre of the back wheel. I'm likely to replace them shortly with another set.
