Universal Phone Mounts

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by TBay, Jan 20, 2024.

  1. Looking for suggestions for a good universal phone mount, ideally one I can easily switch between my 750SS and incoming Multistrada. I have looked at Quadlock but they don’t list my phone - Samsung A13, and I will sometimes be using my work iPhone so a universal one would be ideal.

Does anyone have any suggestions for decent kit?

By the way, I never use Amazon after they screwed over a charity I helped out with a few years back, so wouldn’t buy stuff that is only available there. Thanks.

  2. Quadlock do universal adaptors as well as cases. My brother uses one on the back of his choice of case with no issues.

Don’t get one of these because while they’re pretty secure when riding, I managed to dislodge my phone when I snagged it in the process of bringing my hand up to my face in order to flip my visor open. As I was doing about 70mph at the time, my phone was utterly phucked and it was pretty dangerous too because my instinctive reaction was to make a grab for it as it fell out, which could have ended badly.

For the same reasons, I wouldn’t trust it to retain the phone in the event of a crash.

  4. That’s not much good if you’re using your phone as a sat nav though. :bucktooth:

  5. SP Connect also do a universal stick on adapter to put on a case of your choosing. Would be careful if going that route as not all cases have that good a grip on the phone, Mous cases are pretty secure. I have an SP Connect case and setup for my Galaxy S22, very pleased with it. Bought a wireless charging mount too.

  6. Just bought a holder from Orcas Technology, seems pretty good quality and sturdy for the price, only thing is it only appears to use a 17mm ball mount (supplied) as opposed to the almost universal 1'' mount, i too have been looking for ages to find a suitable one for my phone, a Galaxy A12, Quadlock don't cater for it and all the others i've tried didn't fit...so fingers crossed this one will do the job.

  8. Normally id say quadlock all the way...what ive currently got and its great...no issues...best ive used so far but my mate bought one of these...

And had a good point.... "if you come off your bike your phone is gonna get fucked up and, one thing that happens is phones get nicked by them getting ripped off the mount"

So im seriously considering a beeline now...

  9. I had seen the beeline but forgotten about them. Had a Quick Look and found one second hand for £60. Not a million miles from the price of a mount so have taken a punt on one.

  10. The problem I see with Beelines is that the phone is still doing the navigating, so needs to be powered, even if not to hand.

  11. It doesn’t have to use the phone, you can download it to the Beeline and then it’s totally independent. You just use the app to plan the route and then Bluetooth it to the unit.

  12. Another issue with mounting modern smart phones on your bike is that of vibration messing up the image stabilisation mechanism for the phones camera or, more recently, multiple cameras. An expensive problem to get repaired. Would recommend getting a suitably damped mount.

As soon as a suitable, read decent, Android Auto panel with IPX7 waterproofing is available I'll be switching over to one with my phone connected displaying MyRouteApp. There is one that I've seen that works but it's not ideal. Will carry on risking using my phone for the time being.

  13. I have always memorised the route but if I were to use it as a satnav, I would use headphones and still keep it in my pocket. “At the roundabout take the second exit”.

  14. These seem to be getting more widely available. Which one are you referring to and what's not ideal about it? My biggest concern would be that you still need the phone to be powered while using a hardwired panel, so not simply a case of popping it your pocket.

  15. Haven't checked recently, there was only one on the market a late last year. Didn't look great. Will have a look to see if there's anything new about. OK, have had a look and the 7" Carpuride W702 looks pretty good and a distinct improvement on the somewhat 'shonky' panel I spotted last year. Will have a measure up and probably get one of those in a month or two before I get back out on the bike again in earnest.

I would keep the phoned in my tank bag as I used to do. Have a Givi power outlet in there. Don't like carrying any large items in my pockets when riding.
