1200 Updating Ducati (nuvi 510) Satnav Problems

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by nsm3, May 21, 2014.

  1. Anyone managed to successfully update the maps to the above device?

My 2010 maps let me down a few times in Brittany last week on new roads, so I shelled out £74.99 yesterday for the Lifetime Updates.

Problem is the Garbage Express uploader program keeps telling me that there isn't enough space, even though I bought and fitted a new 4GB micro SD card (formatted and FAT32)?

I'm not overly computer savvy and was hoping this would be plug and play, idiot proof?

Should I get my £75 back and get lost occasionally (still have 2010 maps on original card) or can anyone help (Garmin support is indicating that you have to regionalise, ie; only download UK and ROI)?

  2. I had this issue, was unable to resolve so flogged the nav and bought a new one.

  3. Are you trying to install everything ? If so its not all going to fit on a 4GB card.

    Edit:
That said, I just checked my 660 with Western Europe installed and its just over 3GB. Can you install that ?
Also worth double checking that the target destination is correct and it's not trying to install in to internal memory.

  4. Yes, I'm trying to install all of Europe. The computer says it is 3.1 GB and the SD card is 4 GB.

The existing 2010 system (all Europe) is on a 4 GB card, but for some reason (Ducati based reason?), Italy and Greece are on the Nav unit itself?

Tripletrouble, I understand your approach to this problem!!

Edit: Psy69, I did select the F drive which my laptop thinks the SD card is, but after 5 hours, it came up "error loading to your computer". When I try Device Only or Device and Computer, it comes up "Not Enough Space"?

  5. Will it allow you to install a regional map, eg UK ? Then at least you will know if the issue is the SD Card or something else.

  6. After it gave you the error are you able to browse to the card and see any files. Can you read / write to the SD card directly when mounted as a storage device via the Nuvi?
Is there a write protect tab on the SD card ?
Are you using Garmin Express , if so is that giving you the correct path when installing the maps?

By default , if it can't see an SD card it will install to the device, which is why I think your getting the "not enough space message". The fact that you have an error when specifying your F drive (assuming that is the mounted SD card) would imply there is an issue with that.
Try a single smaller map as it will cut down on you retry time until you resolve it. Do you have another SD card you can try ?

  7. Just spent 1.5 hrs on the phone to Garmin support and I now have UK & Ireland (plus Northern France) on my device and nothing on my SD card. Seems the problem was Garmin Express can't write directly to the SD card but only your computer C drive, then you have to use another program to update the SD card?

But, during the process, it turns out the latest Express has a problem which doesn't allow the option to select the C drive (their end and mine), so they are away looking for a fix?

I have to say I am not very impressed thus far and wish I hadn't bothered, although the chap in support was very good and shares the frustration. Why can't they just get this stuff right?

  8. Odd, I run the maps from my SD card and update via GE. I do have a 660 so the issue may be model specific.
I also see on the Garmin forum that they have pulled the latest Nuvi map due to issues.

  9. Send the SD to me and you get the sd with all the maps on it back from me. Pb me for details.

  10. No one will be particularly interested, but I am so excited to have resolved this issue after 3 weeks of frustration (including about 5 hours actual telephone time - thank #%^* it is free!) and countless reboots/downloads/clean ups etc, I just had to post that I have at last managed to update the poxy European maps on my Ducati Nuvi 510 Satnav :)

Turns out the issue was in the "registry keys" (?) on my computer, which was misdirecting the data - don't know what any of that means, but it works!!

Edit to add; I will carry my 2010 SD card next trip, just incase it gets it's knickers in a twist!
