Upgrade Fuel Line To Ptfe?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by tboooe, Jan 4, 2021.

  1. Hi everybody. The plastic fuel line connector on my 848 Evo finally failed and the rubber fuel lines are looking a bit tired so I was thinking of doing a complete upgrade. I am not too familiar with fuel systems but it seems PTFE lined hoses are best to prevent corrosion. The downside is that these hoses require special fittings instead of the barbed ones and clamps so the total cost to upgrade will be around $100. The upside is that these fittings are much more secure and should last the lifetime of my bike. What does everyone think? Overkill?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  2. As long as you use steel braided hose it should be fine. I don't think unbraided is suitable. The only issue with those it bend radius which is quite large or they kink and if they rub you end up with damage on the tank, frame, engine.etc.
I think it's overkill. The rubber hoses are doing a great job in my opinion.

  3. Great point. Interestingly the normal rubber hose, Vapor Guard made by Earl's has a greater bend radius than their PTFE hoses, UltraPro (2.5" vs 1.5").

  4. That is interesting. The only thing I would say is if the PTFE hose gets linked accidentally it's knackered. The rubber hose isn't.
