Can someone confirm a couple of points please. 2016 Multistrada 1200 DVT. I've changed the belts, ( I know, horrendous access, etc.) Firstly should the number of teeth between the center point marks on the cam pulleys, be the same for the horizontal cyl and the vertical cyl ? ( I would assume yes) (23 if that's correct). with the horizontal cyl in TDC firing stroke the marks line up with the cyl face, and the vertical cyl marks also line up. However when I turn the engine (via back wheel in 6th ) to put the vertical cyl at TDC the marks on the vertical cam pulleys don't line up ! Should they? I think the vertical pulleys moved when I removed the belt. ( I know, I should've had a locking tool between the pulleys, but I didn't. I hope that makes sense and someone can confirm before I try to start it
Whenever I’ve done work that required timing I’ve always turned the engine over slowly by hand. I’ve not ever just hit the starter button.
I've turned it over via the back wheel in gear and it turns over without anything clashing, however I just want to clarify the things I mentioned before starting it. I wouldn't just try and fire it up. I think it might run anyway with 1 tooth out, that's why I'd like someone who has done the DVT belts to clarify. Thanks.
Hi,Thanks, but it still requires removal of cam covers and use of special cam locking tool which I don't have so didn't use. Anyone else have some more input. Cheers
I thought there were mechanics/ Dealers in this group !! Surely someone must have tackled a belt change on their Multi DVT !! Any input appreciated, TIA
Seem to remember that the marks don't line up again until.the engine has done a lot of turns. I usually mark the belts and pulleys and count the teeth. There is a routine for checking the cam position using the dvt settings but can't find it at the moment
Thanks, yeah I watched that one and another one. Got some good replies off FB pages. Got it buttoned up now and fired up ok, will go for a test ride tomorrow. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.
