Hi there its Friday night can any one help please. at the moment I'm in salamanca spain with 3 mates. Tomorrow I want to be some where near the picos for one night. then on Sunday go through the picos and stay over sunday night somewhere near Santander ish for ferry home on Monday. Has any one got a route for me for a good ride back please
Can't help with routes but stayed at Santillana Del Mer at the La Casa de Guela. This was an over night stop so we were nearer Santander. S del Mer is a really interesting Medieval Town. had some of the best suckling pig and crackling in a restaurant there.
This is probably too late for you, but we stopped at Molino de Roperia around Matallana de Toro (north of Leon) which was a nice run to the boat across Riano and Puerto San Gloria (roads a bit rough). Very quiet place, lovely scenery in the gorge, good food & cheap. However, I recommend the N-623 from Burgos (take the old road, turning off the main N-621 at Ubierna) up past the lake. This is a fabulous run, but peters out at the end into pretty but busy and slow roads around Torrelavega. I don't think you'd have time for this from Matallana wiht the boat times. Another suggestion would be to head to the Sierra Demanda and try these roads instead (LR 113 is nice). End up at (say) Santo Domingo then a bit of a slog to Burgos then N-623
