Hi Slowly trawling my way through a lot of posts on here in preparation for purchase of 2011 1200S, some great insights. Currently looking for some advice on USB charging options. First Ducati so a little unfamiliar with the setup so would appreciate any guidance. Planning on mounting iphone somewhere in the dash, probably using a RAM mount and would quite like to have on tap power for it, and some electronic stuff held in a tank bag. Seen to recall reading somewhere that there's power under the left hand fairing? Thanks in advance,
There is a heat shrinked pig tail for power take off on the left side of the bike just below the tank, accessible without taking the whole fairing off, you just need to remove the little black plastic bit. Andy
Hi Robbo, i've done this on about every bike I have ever owned (Multi included). As Android said, there is a fairing panel on the left (2 screws to remove) and there should be a connector covered in heatshrink. I soldered straight onto that with one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Converter-...e=UTF8&qid=1497611421&sr=8-4&keywords=12v+usb It's a switched supply and therefore will not drain the battery. I'm currently running the same setup on my KTM. I usually use enough wire to have the USB ports mounted by the dash. With regards to mounting your iPhone, I highly recommend Quad Lock. I've a quad lock case on my iPhone, and the quad lock receiver on my bike. I could crash, total the bike and myself... the phone would still be connected. I don't bother with waterproof cases as my iPhone is new enough to be waterproof enough to cope with the little bit of rain it gets (the screen offers a fair bit of protection anyway).
