Put deposit on new to me, but just under 3 year old monster 1200s. Bike has done less than 5k, but only 3 month warranty? Is that the norm (,from main dealer) or should it get a 12 month warranty? Cheers.
Aftermarket warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on. Not even the AA/RAC ones. They almost all go back to the same policy holder anyway. If there is any way at all to get out of paying, they find it. ONLY manufacturers warranties are worthwhile.
I have never taken out an aftermarket insurance policy on a bike, however I have had one on my Mercedes and whenever anything has cropped up, no questions have been asked and the dealership has just got on with the work with no cost to myself. In fact I am surprised that all the policies for bikes are considered as unsatisfactory.
Normally your bike has to be less than 6 years old and the mileage needs to be less than 50000 Kms. The dealership selling the bike confirms the Ducati is in good order and so it may be confirmed as Ducati Certified. ( that is to say not us but the bike!)
https://www.ducati.com/gb/en/service-maintenance/ducati-approved 12 or 24 months, if main dealer is selling then it should be a approved used, cannot see why it would not.
I thought “Ducati Approved Used” was just the bikes the dealer managed to slap a £3k mark up on I’ve experienced extended third party warranty on a bike before, cam shaft failed on a 2yr old bike, said it was “wear n tear” and wouldn’t cover it, luckily the dealer and manufacturer stepped up and covered the majority of the repair. Having said that the old man had a turbo go on his Merc and no questions asked, guess it depends on the warranty company and also the garage doing the work fighting your corner?
Thanks for responses all. It seems odd that the bike has service history, am buying from the dealer who sold it initially and it has 4900 miles and isn't 3 years old until end of month. Wondering why it's not an approved used Ducati??
Make sure you get some miles on it in the first few months also check what the used warranty covers. I’d be inclined to ride the piss out of it to see if anything falls off
