Whilst looking at the Ducati service manual for a 748/748s 2002, i noticed this spacer behind the v piece number 3 in the photo, not seen these in any diagram before and don't have any on my bike,
I took the fairings off my 748R several months ago. Whilst tidying last week I found the pot of fixings as I gathered a few bits and pieces to put them in one place. In the pot are 2 small top hat type spacers that I didn’t recognise. You might have just provided an answer. Andy
Ive just checked the two new screws i got from Ducati as I'm going to replace the old ones for new and they are both the same length and not long enough to include a spacer,
Pretty sure my 02 does not have spacers. The 996 definitely does not. EDIT Just checked online parts catalog. 02 R, no spacer. 748, spacers. 996, no spacers. How would have thought it.
Without physically checking mine, it may very well be the 748/748S/748E doesn't have an oil cooler as standard and perhaps the V-piece attaches to the same lugs on the horizontal cylinder rocker cover as the oil cooler attaches to, hence, no oil cooler = need spacers; oil cooler present removes the need for spacers Then again this may be complete and utter balderdash.
I think Paul is correct, the spacer is a simple turned cylinder, part number is 71610761A and is not listed on bikes fitted with an oil cooler, its around 16mm dia and 16mm deep. Screw for the ones that use it are M6x20 and for the ones that don't use it they are M6x10
That would explain a the small gap at the bottom of my v piece were it meets the the two side fairings, will order spacers/bolts on Monday if Motorapido are still open and can get them with all whats going on.
Roadtrip, the Ducati 6x20mm (and 10mm) bolts are used for loads of their bikes for many years so should be easy to find if MR don't stock them
I've just fitted an oil cooler to my 2002 748 (now an 854) I'm going to need spacers as the screw for the plastic v piece runs into the rubber mount for the cooler.
No problems Paul. You can see that the screws hit the mount for the oil cooler. I'm going to fit a spacer to bring the plastic panel out. It will hopefully also bring it a bit closer to the front of the side fairings. These are fibreglass custom ones not OEM so they don't fit perfectly
@Martin Le Tessier thanks That V piece is recessed a lot at the bottom, is that just due to the 3rd party fairing panels or is there something else going on?
Just check the 748 SPS fiche and my bike, no spacers which supports this......as it has an oil cooler
No, but wouldn't it space it out a bit if they're using the same mounting position? I might check my bike physically later.
An oil cooler doesn't alter the mounting of the v piece though. My V without a spacer, about 5mm clearance at most. Steve
