Hi all, Kind of invalid now but… Today I had a click and collect second hand 2018 Panigale V4 arrive, because I just miss having a big red ducati. Bike rolled off the ramp and it was started, made a huge blue (not white, blue) plume of smoke out of the stock exhaust and there was a loud constant rattle. It sounded like a dry clutch, however unless retro fitted it should be a wet clutch… plus the rattle didn’t change when the clutch lever in or in gear. Turned off, started again after a lot of turning over sounding like it was mis firing. I know the cylinder bank shuts off but it just sounded rough. Took it up the road and rattling was still really loud and got louder with higher revs but seemed to run fine. Checked the exhaust bolts etc to the rear bank and the heat shield seemed all secure. I spoke to a Ducati dealer who said what I explained didn’t sound right and I rejected the bike as I wasn’t comfortable. It wasn’t a problem the guys were really great about it. So getting to the point, has anyone else had these symptoms and what was it, or am I being dramatic? A friend of mine had a speciale and a v4r (dry clutch I know), I had a V4 SF on loan for 2 weeks, but none sounded like that. Secondly anything else to watch out for on these as I continue my search? Cheers!
Haha no mate I had my 1299 for 3 years 10k miles no issues. Like I say friends have had various V4’s over the years no issues at all. It did have 6 Ducati stamps in every year up until September 2022 and due one next month. Even called the original dealer and they said since selling new and servicing the 6 times it hadn’t had any work other than fuel cap recall. So naturally thought it would be mechanically ok.
The 2018 v4 used to split the original exhaust can a fair bit. But can’t explain the blue smoke. And the rattling sounds nasty.
I haven’t heard that one yet will keep an eye out for that thanks mate. No it’s strange, bike only had 3.9k on it too. A lot of furring on some of the bolts which I didn’t see in the videos so think it’s had a hard life.
No sweat. The only other thing I’d say is it’s a lot to spend on a bike unseen. But it’s your choice.
