V4 V4 Quickshifter Replacement

  1. Probably countless people having had issues including myself with no blipper I’ve opted for junking the unreliable OE unit for a HM unit. Also for a better feel! Adjustable for kill time so should make for a quicker more precise change. Anyone ordering one of these will need another rose joint to connect to the output shaft end. You can use the OE one that’s connected to the footrest end. I will be fitting over the weekend and post up some results

  2. Where'd you source the rose-joint from Dave ?

  3. I had a spare kicking around from another setup. Surprised they don’t supply one in the kit as your pretty stuffed without it. Obviously you can use the OE one from one end.

  4. Got it pretty much mocked up but think I will be moving the display as I don’t think the screen will be visible once the lower fairing section is installed. I also run the shifter with the cable exiting the rear and loping back around and following the same path as the OE unit. I’ve seen others routed the opposite way but don’t like the way the cable has to flex over a shorter distance potentially causing some resistance. Will try repositioning the display tomorrow if it’s not visible.

  5. Ok all finished up, just rerouted some other cables. The Red display unit can sit in that position and you can just see enough of the screen via the opening in the lower fairing. Just ran a self calibration and then setup the sensitivity too 60, also changed the module From C too E operation. C being compression or push to change up gear or E being extension or pull to change up. Only disappointment is you can’t change the kill time! Pretty sure this is information sent via the ECU. I’m still thinking it will feel more positive without any moving parts from the OE shifter load cells:cool:

Might just get a chance to squeeze out for 20 minutes as my fridge is empty and I seriously need some vitals to stay alive:bucktooth:

    Hi Dave
Did you manage to get out and try it?
I'm keen to do something myself as I've always found the V4 to be a lazy shift, if you know what I mean. The 1299 wasn't much better.
I compare it to my Triumph 675r which is so much more precise.
£450 is a wedge of cash so I would hope it's much improved over the OE item.

  7. Weathers been pretty moody here and what with the lockdown situation i wasn’t really feeling it was that essential. Frustrating but i will just be patient and pick another time when i need some shopping from another county! Yeah hopefully it should be a big improvement and I will keep you posted. Today’s job involves applying my Matt paint protection film kit that I’ve been putting off for the last month! o_O

  9. Nice job !! I can’t help thinking though either I’m very lucky or you’re unlucky as the quick shifter/ blipper on mine is spot on! Easily as good as my race bike if not better! (translogic) ! And as slick as my previous race bike with motec moto 2 shifter! In fairness though I haven’t used it on track yet as Jerez was obviously blown out,but riding it enthusiastically on the road it was faultless!

  10. No issues at all with my standard one on road or track after 2k miles, apart from the very odd mis shift into 6th on the straight at Portimao, but realistically I've not needed 6th on any other track I've been on!

  11. I had the v2 software installed on my 2018 at the same time I had a dry clutch fitted. There had been no issues but the v2 software made a big difference. Andy

  13. mines is playing up again good write up dave

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  14. Got one on the way !
To reiterate, I don't yet know the V4 really well (only 400 miles done), but when it's on the gas the shifter is really sluggish going up the box. Compared to my old Gen2 S1000RR it feels agricultural.
    Great write-up Dave, thanks

  15. Happy days glad you sorted one out. Totally agree with it feeling slightly sluggish! The OE load cell unit is full off springs and moving parts so should hopefully eliminate any delays and feel far more precise. So frustrating I’ve not had the chance to even test mine yet. Don’t forget if your running road shift pattern to setup on E for extension as this pulls the unit for up changes.

  16. Cheers Dave !
Got a load of goodies on the way. At least during this time we can devote some garage-hours...
Keep you posted on how it all comes together.

  17. Thanks for the write up Dave. The HM is exactly what I’d replace mine with should the need arise, had one on my race bike & loved it.

  19. Update!!!!!

Yipee I’ve got my Blipper back:D So obviously a OE quickshifter issue!

Ok first thing first as i previous stated the unit needs to be in E mode for road shift, translating the setup options from the website this states for pull or extension for setting up for up changes. Looked and looked again as it’s definitely pulling when changing up as opposed to pushing! So popped out for some essential items and gave it ago! Nothing:( Shifter didn’t work in either direction;) So pulled over on quiet backroad and stuck it in C mode. Now works a treat in both directions:upyeah: up changes feel far more precise and crisp, Feels like far less delay than the OE unit! And blipper feels the same, down changes take less effort and even the blip feels more pronounced. I’ve still got the sensitivity set on 60 but might try going up in +5 increments till I find my sweet spot. It’s not far away. Out of the box it’s definitely a noticeable improvement over stock, plus hopefully will be far more reliable long term. It feels more predictable and consistent to. That’s put a smile on my face today:)
